Frank Wallace Hutchison passed away on March 8, 2013 in Arroyo Grande, California. He was 87 years old. Frank was born on November 2, 1925 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Carl and Ardella (Parks) Hutchison. He graduated as valedictorian from Salmon High School in 1944, and served in the US Army in the Philippines and Japan. He received his degree from the University of Idaho and then taught at Salmon High School and Wallace High School. While teaching in Wallace, friends introduced him to Betty Johnson, and they were married in 1956. They started a family and moved to Portland, Oregon, where Frank held the positions of teacher and vice principal at Cleveland High School.
In 1967, Frank and Betty moved to Petaluma, California where they raised their two children. Frank served as vice principal at Rancho Cotate High School in Rohnert Park, principal at Rohnert Park Junior High School, and principal at Petaluma High School. After retiring from Petaluma High School in 1986, he and Betty moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, where they enjoyed the outdoors and being with family. Frank spent his last years in Arroyo Grande, California with his daughter and her husband.
Throughout his life Frank was known for his kind and gentle nature. So many students and colleagues fondly remember him. Some of his former students even arranged for Frank to travel from Idaho to California to attend their class reunion. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, bird watching, and attending school activities. He made friends easily and liked to share stories about summers working on forest fire lookout towers.
Frank is survived by his sister Shirley Noll (Jim) of Missoula, MT; daughter Nancy Bruce (Creed) of Arroyo Grande, CA; son, John Hutchison (Susan) of Baton Rouge, LA; and grandchildren Ian Hutchison and Jane Hutchison. His brother LaVar Hutchison (Verla) of Salmon, ID followed him in death six days later.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Betty; his parents; stepfather Clarence Mann; sisters Eleanor Casey, Thelma Mahaffey, Jean Brough, and Opal Smith; and brother Lawrence Hutchison.
