Also survived by her sister, Eileen Barth of Virginia, two nephews and a niece, 12 great grandchildren, and step-children Yvonne Wilson of Clayton and Robert Cangelosi of San Francisco.
Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on May 23, 1918 to Frank and Thea (Culver) Danford. Raised in Ohio and New Jersey, she attended Rider College. She met her future husband, Tony Fama (on a blind date) in 1936 and they were married in San Francisco three years later. Tony enlisted as an officer in the US Army in 1941. While awaiting deployment, their first child, Joe, was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Lois lived in California with her in-laws for part of the war years, and then returned to her own family in New Jersey. Upon Tony's discharge, the family settled in San Jose, where their second son, Denis was born. Two years later, they opened their first of several grocery stores in San Francisco which they operated during the Fifties. Their third child, Monica was born in the City during this time. Lois labored tirelessly during these years, raising a family and spending 10-12 hours a day working in the store. She made many sacrifices to send her children to private schools and was a true "Supermom".
The family moved to the Sunset in 1958 and Mom worked part time at several local businesses in the Parkside during the 60's and 70's, while maintaining the home. Tony died in 1981, and Lois continued to work and live in the family home for several years. She was remarried in 1989 to Vince Cangelosi and spent many happy years with him traveling and enjoying life. In 1992 they moved to Petaluma, where they lived together until his death in 1995. In her later years, she spent much time with her children and grandchildren, enjoying great vacations and holiday times with us all.
In retirement, Mom volunteered for many years at Sacks, a thrift shop which benefits Hospice of Petaluma.
She was an extraordinary woman, who inspired us through her selflessness and love of family. She will be missed but never forgotten. The family thanks Hospice of Petaluma for their kindness and support and Vuta Rabo, her live in caregiver during the last months of her life, who loved her dearly.
Donations to Hospice of Petaluma (416 Payran St., Petaluma, CA 94952) are suggested.
The Funeral Mass for Lois will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy., Petaluma.
