Catherine Marian (Rohde) Mac Kenzie (1918 - 2012)

Obituary

December 21, 1918 – April 22, 2012
Passed away on April 22, 2012 in Petaluma of natural causes at 93 years of age. Catherine "Kay" Mac Kenzie, devoted wife of Glenn Mac Kenzie for 69½ years. Beloved mother of Donald Mac Kenzie (Susan), Gerald Mac Kenzie (Janet), and the late George Mac Kenzie. Loving mother-in-law of Donna Catelli Mac Kenzie. Cherished grandmother of Michael Mac Kenzie of El Dorado Hills, Jennifer Soper (Will) of Petaluma, and Elizabeth Cravy (Forrest) of Susanville. Adored great-grandmother of Mackenzie Rose and Jaxon George Soper of Petaluma; of Bailey Nuckles, and of Kristina, Richard and Glenn Cravy, of Susanville. Loving sister of Melvin Rohde (deceased) and dear sister-in-law of Verlie Rohde of Petaluma.
Born in Petaluma to Ben and Louise Rohde originally from the Island of Fohr, Germany, Kay was reared and educated in Petaluma. She attended Wilson Grammar School on Bodega Avenue. After graduating from Petaluma High School in 1935 as valedictorian of her class, she attended Armstrong Business College in Santa Rosa. She worked in Petaluma for a while, but soon became a homemaker after marrying Glenn and giving birth to her sons Don and Gerry when Glenn was overseas in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
Besides her outstanding parenting and grand-parenting, Kay gave a lot back to the Petaluma community. She served the Petaluma Valley Hospital Auxiliary for over 30 years, mostly in the gift shop. She also worked on a weekly basis for the Hospice of Petaluma for ten years, making sure the kitchen and dining area were the way they should be.
Kay created an artistic gardening masterpiece in her home, perfectly complementing Glenn's vegetable garden. She joined the Petaluma Garden Club in 1967 and was an active member until she moved to the great garden in heaven. Her garden was an inspiration to family and friends for decades. Her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren will certainly honor her with their own gardening activities.
At her request, no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran St., Petaluma, CA 94952. Family assisted by
