Passed away peacefully on April 5, 2013 at her Petaluma residence at the age of 87 years. Devoted wife of the late Ed Lewitter. Loving mother of Marc Lewitter of Healdsburg, Susan Koehler of San Francisco, and Alan Lewitter of Petaluma. Dear Mother-in-law of Carl Koehler and Betsi Lewitter. Cherished grandmother of Ryan (Sierra) Lewitter, Allison (Alfonso) Koehler-Lopez, and Michael Koehler. Special great-grandmother of Michael Steven Lopez. Dear sister of Pearl Cutler of Fairfield and the late Adele Rosen. She was a loving aunt to Ellen, Alex, Wendy, Eileen, and Ruth.
Mollie was born in New Jersey and married her childhood sweetheart. She began her work career in 1945 in SF working for Goldstein's Costume Company. She and her husband lived their dream of buying a chicken ranch and moving to Petaluma in 1951. Despite weighing less than a sack of chicken feed, she was able to work the ranch and would matter of factly say she could lift a 100 pound sack by herself. She was an office manager for her husband in Cotati, worked for the City of Windsor Water Department and then the City of Petaluma Water Department for 20 years. She graduated from Sonoma State University with honors in the 1980's and was a student at the Life Long Learning Center at SSU. She was an avid knitter and donated hundreds of hats to chemotherapy patients and friends.
Mollie enjoyed her membership (#111) at the Redwood Health Club and learned to swim when she was in her 60's. She played poker with the same friends for over 50 years. Her motto was "to do at least one nice thing for someone everyday".
A special thanks to Leticia Rivas, her loving caregiver and "Bella" her canine companion who comforted her during her final time.
Friends and family were at a Graveside Committal on Monday, April 8, 2013 at B'nai Israel Cemetery in Petaluma. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wilmar Volunteer Fire Dept. or Hospice of Petaluma in her memory. Family assisted by Parent-Sorensen Mortuary.
