Passed away peacefully March 7, 2014 at the age of 96. Wanda was born in Prosser, WA on Sept. 6, 1917 to James Dickinson Powell and Myrtle Biggs Powell, she was one of twelve children. She married Roy C. Madson in 1933 and their first two sons Ron and Daryl were born in WA. They moved to Paradise, CA where Beverly was born, then to San Jose where Roy R. and Diane were born. They moved in 1944 to Tomales where they raised their family. Wanda worked at the cafeteria at Tomales High for 25 years. Lunches were 25¢ a day, students still comment on her delicious brown betty, potato salad, meatloaf and cucumber salad, she was also known for her wonderful lemon pies.
Small but mighty, she was an avid bowler and golfer, she liked watching the Giants, playing cards, keno and listening to country music. In 1971, she and Roy retired to Santa Rosa, summers were spent in Packwood, WA, visiting relatives and school friends. They enjoyed many trips with the late Willie and Marie Poncia. With a heart of gold she was loved by her family and friends. Her family was her life and enjoyment, spending many special occasions and trips with them, she was always the life of the party.
Wanda is welcomed in heaven by her beloved husband Roy C. Madson; loving sons Ronnie, Daryl and Roy R. Madson; loving daughters Beverly Slate Reagan and Diane Rogers; sons-in-law Ben Slate and Mike Rogers; grandchildren Cheryl, Roy M., Joanie and Dwayne Madson. She is survived by her loving daughters-in-law Evelyn Madson, Wanda Sue Madson; and son-in-law Jim Reagan; loving grandchildren Linda Faircloth, Sue Madson (Pat), Daryl Madson, Jr. (Julie), Rick Madson, Randy Slate (Karen), Rick Slate (Kathryn), Renae De Noble (Bob), Marlene Lewandowski, Ed Rogers, Linda Moretti (Fred), Sharon Hendrix (Don), and Kim Madson-Castillo (Tony); twenty-two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A sincere thank you to Rincon Valley Gardens' wonderful caregivers, especially Ray, and her friends at the home.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service, Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mortuary. Private Interment.
