BREECE
WILLIAM J., 89, of Plantation Estates in Matthews NC, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Plantation Estates with Reverend Larry Watts, Plantation Estates Chaplain, officiating. The family will re-ceive friends following Service.
Mr. Breece was born Sept. 3, 1923 in Chester PA, the son of the late Horace W. Breece, Sr. and Ellen Gallagher Breece. He graduated from John Bartram High School in Phila-delphia; Pennsylvania State University; and Yale Law School. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General's Corps.
Following his graduation from Yale Law School, Mr. Breece joined the Legal Department of Scott Paper Company in Phila-delphia, and spent 32 years with that company, retiring as a Senior Vice President in 1982. After his retirement, he resumed his education, attend-ing Drexel University's evening school, and graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics in 1985.
During his business career Mr. Breece was at various times President of United Way of Southeast Delaware County, PA; Chairman of the Board of Crozer-Chester Memorial Hospital in Upland PA; Vice President of Penn State Alumni Association; Vice Chairman of the Board of Williamson School in Lima PA; and Chairman of the Industrial Relations Committee of the American Paper Institute.
He is survived by his wife, Norene E. Breece of Matthews NC; an adopted stepson, Thomas G. Thomson of New York NY; and sisters, Margaret B. Lowe of Carmel NY and Nancy Brown of Fort Washington PA.
Memorials may be made to the Samaritan Fund of Plantation Estates, 733 Plantation Estates Drive, Matthews NC 28105.
