DOUGLAS
REV. FREDERICK DOUGLAS, JR., Ph.D., 71, Church Pastor, passed away on April 1, 2013 at his residence in West Chester, PA. He was the son of Frederick Douglas Sr., and Arlena Douglas.
Fred was born and raised in Chester PA and attended Chester Public Schools, graduat-ing from Chester High School in the Class of 1959. He furthered his education at the University of Pennsylvania School of Allied Medical Professions, West Chester University, Masters of Education, and his Ph.D. from Ohio State University. He later answered the call to the Ministry and entered Drew University School of Theology where he received his Master of Divinity Degree. He also received an honorary doctorate from Albright College.
He practiced physical therapy at Magee Memorial Rehabili-tation Hospital, Philadelphia General Hospital, Womack Army Hospital, Delaware Curative Workshop, Crozer Chester Hospital, and Septa Medical Department. He also maintained a private physical therapy office in Chester.
He was an Elder in the Eastern PA Conference of the United Methodist Church pastoring six local congregations as well as chaplain at the Methodist Home for Children in Philadelphia.
He was a Member of Mu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
urvived by his wife, Valerie Smith Douglas; son, Steven Douglas, and daughter, Tezrin Douglas; his parents, Frederick and Arlena Douglas, Sr.; 3 brothers, Aaron, (Peggy) Brian, (Shirley) and Eric; sisters, Arlena Alston, Carrie Washington (Allen), a host of other relatives, friends and his conference family.
Funeral Service 10 A.M., Saturday, April 6, 2013, at West Chester United Methodist Church, 129 S. High St., West Chester PA. Viewing 6 to 8 P.M., Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Church and Saturday 8 to 10 A.M. at the Church. Services by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity will be 7 P.M. Friday at the Church. Int. Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia PA.
