JOHN ALEXANDER McBRIDE,
76, of Washington Crossing passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 of complications of metastatic melanoma. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Hess McBride, his son, Craig P. McBride, both of Washington Crossing; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam McBride Dent and John Dent of Arlington, VA; and a grandson, Nathan. John, "Sandy" to his parents, was born to George and Margaret (Phillips) McBride in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Olney High School in Philadelphia, Penn State University
(B.A.) and Temple University (M.B.A.). He fell in love with Rachel Della Hess at Penn State's Ogontz Center, and they married on August 22, 1959. John served proudly as a United States Marine, and thereafter worked for Curtis Publishing Company, publishers of the "Saturday Evening Post." In 1965 John moved his family to Washington Crossing and took a management position with the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey, where his service as Executive Director of Corporate Planning made a lasting contribution to the development of the company. He claimed that he merely toiled in order to fund his sailing vacations; in 1996, he opted for more vacation without the toiling in between. John most treasured his family, his friends, and time spent in enjoying them, preferably within view of an ocean. He had a loyal and hospitable spirit, and especially enjoyed the company of young people. His extended family included a nephew and two nieces, and seven great-nieces and nephews, whom he loved like grandchildren. He wisely collected an extended family of "aunts" and "uncles" for his children from his high school and college days, on through work, and into his post retirement golfing days, while his friends and children in turn bestowed upon him a number of "adopted" daughters and sons whom he cherished. He was a hard worker, a smooth dancer, a proud Scot, an indefatigable raconteur, an ardent sailor, an incorrigible flirt and, above all, a consummate gentleman. Funeral services will be held Monday April 22nd 12:00 Noon at the WILSON-APPLE FUNERAL HOME, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington, NJ. 08543.
Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until time of Service at the Funeral Home. The Interment will be private. Contributions in John's memory may be made to The
