CAROL, of Bryn Mawr died on November 3, 2012. Carol MacDonald Smith was born on July 28, 1921 in Wayne at the home of her parents Caroline Franklin and Stanley Smith. Carol and her sister Virginia Denison were raised in Radnor by their mother and stepfather John P. Hollingsworth. In 1945 she married the late Dr. Alexander Rush, a physician at the Pennsylvania Hospital and co-founder of the Benjamin Franklin Clinic. Carol and Sandy Rush were married for 38 years. They are survived by their daughters, Mollie Purdy and Sandra Dominguez, as well as former husband, Joseph Hafkenschiel, her grand-children Jessica Purdy Axelrod, William Purdy, Anne Purdy, Casandra Dominguez and Lara Dominguez and 4 great grandchildren.
Carol's sense of humor, courage and generosity of spirit were an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
Services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on November 10th at Old St David's Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, ME 04609-0254.
