Great memories from the very distant past of Lenny, Ron Reichman and I at The Talley Ho in Valley Forge.....so sad that he's gone.

I knew Lenny Siegel as Mike's dad. Mike and I met at a young age, both growing up on Derwen Road. We bonded over toy cars, bikes and Chef Boyardee roller coasters. My strongest and best memories of Lenny are through my 10 year old eyes. I will henceforth refer to him as Mr. Siegel since some habits last forever.
I always took a measure of pride in my own dad's profession, a veterinarian. But who could deny Mike his bragging rights – his dad owned a car dealership! And in the car dealer patois of the day, Mr. Siegel was know to his customers and in ad copy as “Liberal Len”. As Mr. Siegel has been so much the resting point of my thoughts these past few days, I've come to realize that while “Liberal Len” wasn't far off, in a more accurate world, it would have been “Generous Len”. For it was Mr. Siegel's generosity that is his legacy to me. It was occasionally wrapped in a gruff presentation, but it was more often than not riding on his booming enthusiasm.
Many were the Saturdays that Mr. Siegel would happily take Mike and me, two similarly enthusiastic youths along to Norristown Ford and grant us free reign over the enterprise. With Mr. Siegel's blessing, we would distract the mechanics from their appointed duties with our creeper races across the airplane-hanger sized service bays. I believe Mike still has a chin scar to show for our exploits. But we could get into no amount of trouble at the dealership that would prevent Mr. Siegel from taking us to the local hobby shop for gifts of model cars on the way home.
Back on Derwen Road, every warm summer night found us, and any other neighborhood kid within earshot or biking distance, piling into the car for a ride to Manayunk for a stop at Overbrook Water Ice.
I don't recall going to a single sporting event with my own dad. However I have endless memories of the Flyers, Sixers, and Phillies; of the Spectrum and of Veteran's Stadium courtesy of Mr. Siegel. Not to mention all the food we could fit in our bellies and all the souvenirs we could hold in our arms.
As my own life now revolves around my 3 year old son, and I experience all the emotions of a new father I will always remember Mr. Siegel as my model. I know I am and will be a better father as a result of his generosity of time, spirit, and enthusiasm.

Lenny was such a wonderful, kind and hilarious person. He was a dear friend of my uncles John & Tony Arena. My mom, Marge, would have him and her brothers for lunch many a time and we always had a good laugh or two. Lenny, you will be missed but not forgotten. God Bless, my friend.

We will always miss "wonderful you" Len. Your great sense of humor, laugh and love of life were special. We still hear your radio commercials telling Jack Del Vecchio at Norristown Ford "Sell it for less Jack"! I am sure Jack will hear that all of his life too.
Love you Len, Rest In Peace.

Deepest Sympathies to the family. The last time I saw my cousin Lenny was probably as a teenager (and I'm 57 now). I was named for his and Dorothy's father, Bernie. May his memory bring you great joy.

To a man, who had the loudest voice I have ever known, even louder then mine. Always the light of the party and forever will shine upon everyone he has ever known. To a man, who always stood his ground, no matter if it was with his family, his friends, or his foes, he always stood in front of the pack. To a man, who spoke his mind, a true follower and a believer in "Carpe Diem". To a man, who always was a true giver, and never believed in the term "no". Always a yes man, an adventurous man, and definitely if you ever met him "a true wonder of the world" man. To a man, whose eternal soul will always live on, throughout the ages, leaving us to see his light shine upon us along the years we proceed. A love ,a treasure, a leader, an infinite true power. To a man, who has held the leadership and the presidency of the moles of america organization, a marshmallow lover kind of man, and to a man whom we are all forever eternally grateful for in our lives today. We will miss his voice. We will forever hear it in our heads, and through our ears. He will always look down on us as his true, wonderful moles that we are today.
"Moles of America stick together through thick and thin, and all kinds of weather. And that is why the moles of america are the greatest in the land."
