As a nursing student class of 1986 I can only remember how hard Pat worked and her true commitment to the students and the nursing program. She was admired by all and professionaly respected. I was very proud to have her as the director of my program and remember how awesome she was to have achieved her doctorate.May she be remembered for all the good she did in this world and may her soul have divine peace for eternity.

What a loss to the world of nursing and beyond! As a student of Pat's over 40 years ago, I was impressed by her deep intelligence, her excellent teaching, her encouraging manner, and her sense of humor. Family and friends, please be comforted in knowing how much Pat was admired and how many lives she touched.

As a graduate of RMH class of 78, I remember her as an advocate of nursing who instilled a desire to continue the education process in nursing. While she pushed us to do our best, she cared about her students both personally and professionally and always had encouragement for her students. Her years in nursing education are a testament to a career she loved. She will be missed.

~ I will always remember her words of wisdom, her drive to make us - her students better nurses and independent thinkers, and her ability to make us laugh during the stress of finals and preparing for our new endeavors as profession nurses. She was there when I needed her and I'll never forget how much confidence she had in me and encouraged me to be the best I could be.
Dr. Nelson, you will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
Thank you for your mentorship and guidance. I consider you to be one of the nurses that inspired me many years ago to enjoy my nursing profession as a calling and appreciate the vocation. I have never forgotten what you said to me.
~Into paradise may the angels lead you.

As I read the wonderful tributes I can only express joy that it is all true
To have had Pat as my dear friend was a privilege and blessing.
She and I taught together at Roxborough for years and loved sharing MedSurg As years passed we would always say. You taught that or no I taught that. I will miss her always and loved her so much. We were all blessed to have known her and are better off because of it. Peace is now and forever

The world has lost an energetic, full-of-life dynamo whose passion for nursing and nursing education was unwavering and her love of her family knew no end. Pat and I worked together for 19 years and much of what I learned and who I am today were influenced by our friendship. Her courage in life and zest for living will always be remembered. Rest in peace, Pat....you have earned it. Mary Grace Simcox

Pat was "one of a kind". She was the heart and soul of RMH School of Nursing. I have personally been blessed to have known her as a boss, mentor, and best friend- who I will never forget. Her spirit will forever be in the school and her voice will always be heard. It will be unfortunate that future graduates of our school will not know her, but her legacy will live on forever. She has touched hundreds of people in all capacities, but most of all it was her passion for nursing and life that will be remembered. I love you Pat and will miss you, but know you are in a better place. Rest in Peace, my friend! Love forever, Paulina

Dr. Nelson was an inspiration to all. One of her famous quotes that I always remember and applied to my nursing career is "put it in writing" with that in mind I just wanted to write that she was a wonderful educator and person! She touched the lives and inspired hundreds of students and all those who were privileged to know her. (Class of 1989)

I knew Pat since 1985. She was a wonderfully inspiring nurse educator, mentor, and friend. I so enjoyed working for her at RMHSON for five years. I will always remember her. She was kind, funny, smart, and totally amazing. She will be missed by so many.

Dear Pat, I will miss you. You were always REAL when it came to nursing and the students' education. No academic ivory tower for you. We boosted us up when things were tough and celebrated with us when things were good. You always looked like a "fashion plate". You were always cheerful even on those days when your back hurt. Your sense of humor lightened many a moment. You were an amazing person and a nurse always.

To the Nelson Family,
Pat has touched so many people with her love, kindness, and laughter. We will miss her at the family gatherings but, will keep her memories in our hearts.

A wonderful nurse educator has left this earth but not the hearts of the countless nurses she inspired on a daily basis. I'm a better person and nurse because of her unfailing faith in me.
