WALTER BENNER Obituary
Walter was a principal owner in a large east coast painting firm, from 1956, until his retirement in 1995, at which time he joined his sons to establish Benner & Sons Inc. in Edgemont PA.
Walter was a member of the Church of the Savior and Springton Lake Presbyterian Church. Walter was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoors-man. He was an Officer in Paradise Valley Gun Club, a member of Paddy Mountain Rod and Gun Club, Bachelors Barge Club and the NRA.
He is the son of the late John H., Jr. and Ellen (Ryan) Benner and the brother of the late Richard Benner. Survived by devoted wife, Peggy (McKean) Benner; sons, Walter R. Benner, Jr. (Pam) of Lakeland FL, Steve Benner (Jane) of West Chester PA, Mark Benner, Sr. of Phila. PA and Scott Benner, Sr. (Libby) of Malvern PA, and Robert Defibaugh of Scottsdale AZ; daughter, Molly Taft (David) of Fairhaven NJ; brothers: John H. Benner, III.(Betty) and Carl Benner, Sr.; sister, Mary Platt; 22 grand-children; 7 great grandchildren; also survived by former wife, Roberta Benner; nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service Saturday, 11 A.M., at Springton Lake Presbyterian Church, 3090 S. Newtown Street Rd., Newtown Square PA 19073. Visitation Saturday, after 9:30 A.M., at the Church. Interment Private. Memorial donations may be donated, in memory of, Walter R. Benner to, www.cornerstone Christian Academy.com

I was so sorry to hear of Walt's passing today. I wish I had known in time to attend his visitation. He was always so kind to me and encouraging. God Bless. Tim Brown

Walt was a great friend and neighbor of mine at the shore in Ocean City,NJ, I will always remember Walt as he meticulously tended to his "garden" on 25th street as the beachcombers paraded by his masterpiece. I spoke to Walt sometimes three or four times a day during the season as I went back and forth to my house on Central Ave for refreshments and bathroom breaks during the day! I will also remember Walt and Peggy being impeccably dressed as they were getting into the white Caddy to go to one of their favorite dinner places downtown on Saturday nite. I had the good fortune of meeting Walter when I was a fledgling painter in 1971. I have fond memories of him having been employed by the firm several times. Seeing him at the company Christmas parties the last several years was a real treat.His legacy will carry on through his children. Our condolences to his family.
