JANET HOTSON


91, of Kennett Square, formerly of Media, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at her home in Kendal Retirement Community after an extended illness. Janet was the only daughter of Viola Kerby and Ronald Bruce Hotson. After graduating with high honors from Swarthmore College in 1947, she married Norman Baker and worked as a freelance copyeditor while raising their two daughters before beginning her career. A thorough and tireless copyeditor, she was requested by numerous authors for her copyediting help at publishing houses such as Doubleday, Dutton, Grove, Harper, Lippincott, St Martin's, Viking, Warner and Westminster Press. Some of her authors included: Charles Frazier, Susan Isaacs, Ken Kesey, Stephen King, Elmore Leonard, John D. MacDonald, Joyce Carol Oates, Piers Paul Read, Lisa Scottoline and E.B. White. She is predeceased by her husband Norman William Baker (1925 - 1987) and is survived by daughters Sarah Baker Macartney (Brice) of Media, Joan Kerby Krehnbrink (Thomas) of West Brandywine, and one granddaughter Emily Katherine Macartney. Burial and memorial will be private.
