JERRY DORN Obituary
JERRY DORN, aka, ISRAEL J. DORN, died peacefully Monday May 21, 2012. Age 90. Survived by: son, Joel Dorn, daughter, Lorraine Dutill, step-father to David J. Dorn. Loving grand-father to Shawn Dutill. Also survived by: former spouses, Patricia Davidson Anderson and Helen Dorn. His love of jazz music will live on forever in the hearts of his friends and family. Memorial Service - Sunday, June 10, 2012 at The Philadelphian, 2401 Pennsyl-vania Ave. Social Room A, Phila., PA at 11:00 A.M.

Joe dorne is my uncle a tremendous man with a big heart my father passed away at 49 which was Jerry's brother he was there for me and console me in many ways anytime that I needed advice in my young life I would call him and he gave me encouragement and knowledge in life that always helped me in the right direction I wish I had spent more time with him as I was living in Florida and had called him many times on the phone and visited him always a great time I remember his red Cadillac how much he loved that car there's so much to say about my uncle that I can't put it down in words all I know is he was always there for me when I needed him he lived a wonderful Life he was so talented in so many ways he had two beautiful children I know and my father were very close and I'm sure at my father's passing it affected Jerry he's a strong man and he knows how life is I will always keep him in my heart and mind and I'm so proud to have had a family member an uncle that was so talented and I'll always miss him but I know that he's up there looking down on his family and everyone that he loves enclosing I don't think that there's many men that were so talented and knowledgeable in so many ways God bless you Jerry I love you and you're in my heart and soul I know that heaven is listening to your jazz music and you probably have everybody bebopping around to the music you were so talented in I love you Uncle

I was just thinking about Mr. D the other day... he told me a joke once about an aspiring actor in NY that made me fall out of my chair; mainly because of the way he told it... his timing, in his music and his jokes, was impeccable. I miss him very, very much.

There isn't a week that goes by that I don't think about Mr. Dorn. I feel so fortunate to have had him in my life; A generous, funny, profoundly loving man.

Jerry was a super guy, loved playing jazz with him thru the years. The sessions at his house were great.

Jerry Dorn was a great human being and a fine musician,who was part of the foundation of what became modern jazz.He was a gentleman,and will be missed.

Jerry actively sought out beauty in all things and in most cases, was fortunate enough to find it. He was a dear friend, a mentor and and an extraordinary person...My sincerest condolences to his family; he will be sorely missed.

I was very privileged to have been a close friend of Mr. Dorn during the last quarter-century of his life. For me, he was a living link to the Swing and Bebop eras of Jazz, which were mostly prior to my own lifetime, but to which I have become very solidly attached. His annual "Dornfests" offered local musicians the opportunity to jam in a party atmosphere, initially at his home in Northeast Philadelphia and later at the Philadelphian (to which he moved in 1997). Thank you for everything, Jerry!
