KARL A., age 79, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 in Philadelphia. He is survived by his daughter, Christy Schneider, eight nieces and nephews, and his former wife, Carolyn Schneider. His life was dedicated to education and service. He was a teacher of German at Harriton High School of Lower Merion and also a successful tennis coach, 1951-1961. In the Philadelphia School District, he taught English as a Second Language to students from Cambodia, Vietnam, Korea, China, and Pakistan. His teaching also included adults at Lutheran Adult and Family Services in Philadelphia, PA. His church and community service began as a pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church in the Roxborough, neighborhood of Philadelphia where he preached in English and German, 1964-70 and later served St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Dublin PA. He also served Southeastern PA Synod as Director of Drug and Alcohol Services and provided training for clergy intervention in addition to providing a phone hotline for concerned congregations. Students of the Lutheran Seminary welcomed his guest lecturer course, "Ministry with Addictive Families." He was also a German Visitation pastor. The 21st Ward Community Council recognized him with the award for humanitarian service. Specialized degrees include: BA, Magna Cum Laude, Muhlenberg College. M.Div., Lutheran Theological Seminary, and an M.A. in Alcohol Studies from Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley CA, and also the Certificate in Family Therapy. In, 1983 the Lutheran Church in America invited Rev. Schneider to introduce the statement on addiction to the Lutheran convention in Louisville, KY. He served as Director of Education at Eagleville Hospital, 1971-1983. Publications include the study text, "Alcoholism and Addiction" and a reprint of "Alcoholism-A Family Affair". In 2007, he entered Cathedral Village. At age 70, he began watercolor painting. He exhibited paintings in "Life's Colors," a display at Cathedral Village. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 3025 Church Road, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444. Greet family members at 10:30 A.M. followed by memorial service at 11 A.M.
