STEPHANIE BEILMAN Obituary

BEILMAN
STEPHANIE WALSH

67, of Berwyn, died peacefully at her home on August 8, 2017 after a battle with cancer.
The oldest of Bill and Barbara Walsh's 15 children, Stephanie was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, and attended Holy Child in Rosemont. She was an accomplished swimmer, achieving multiple top-8 finishes at U.S. Senior Nationals. Stephanie parlayed her swimming talent into a coaching career, becoming the first head coach of the Harvard women's swim team from 1975 to 1980, while earning her college degree from Boston University. She then joined her father in a successful career in the insurance business at The Equitable (now AXA).
Stephanie was an active member of her community – including St. Monica Church in Berwyn, U.S. Masters Swimming, Rotary International, the Cursillo Movement, and Walking with Purpose and was an extraordinarily devoted friend to hundreds.
She was predeceased by her father William T. Walsh, her husband Donald Beilman, and her stepdaughter Martha Strobel. She is survived by her mother Barbara Walsh; her sons Chris and Stephen Johnson; her grand-children Tee, Danny, Lucas, Kelly and Carter Johnson; her siblings: Minna, Bridget (Walsh-Davis), Monica, Michael, Therese (Seiberlich), Huddie (Murray), Matt, Tim, Dan, Maura (Burke), Brendan, Chet, Bucky, and Lexa; and her stepchildren David, Tom, and Karl Beilman and Kathy Gray.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. on Friday, August 11th, at St. Monica Church, 635 First Ave, Berwyn, PA. There will be an additional visitation at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 12 at St. Monica, preceding a Funeral Mass at 12:30 P.M. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stephanie's honor to The Society of the Holy Child Jesus, 1341 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA 19010 or to USA Swimming Foundation, 1 Olympic Plaza, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.

I just learned of Stephanie's passing from a friend this morning.

I was shocked .

Stephanie was very influential in my professional career.

I will always appreciate her support in working with me when she was president of the Philadelphia Chapter of Life Underwriters ,( now NALU ) and I as president of the Philadelphia CLU chapter ( now FSP ).

Her father was also a terrific inspiration for me.

She will be remembered in my prayers.

I was away at Y Nationals coaching, when my wife sent me a pic of Steph's letter to me. Upon my return to Florida, I proceeded to write back to Steph. The date I sent the letter was Aug 8th. Followed up with mutual friend George Breen soon thereafter. He broke the heart felt news. Steph closed her letter with " I am thankful, for your love, kindness and friendship for these past many years." ......It is me, who is thankful, and surely blessed ,with the friendship Steph bestowed upon me. Blessings to the family. Tarn Thompson

Steph touched my life from the days of Penn swimming, coaching at Harvard, running into each other at Masters Meets. In my letter to her, dated the day she passed away, I sent her my special prayer beads, and, closed the letter with her quote...." I am thankful, for your love, kindness, and friendship for these past many years. " Prayers and Blessings to the Walsh / Beilman families.

Caring, bright, inspiring, all the positive attributes friends and family have noted about Steph. She relinquished her leadership role with NAIFA - PA to care for Don. Those of us who knew Steph understood her decision and agreed that we would miss her and her contributions to the association. Now, family and friends, we all will miss her.

To Steph's mom, Barbara, Chris, Stephen and all of Steph's siblings,

I have had a heavy heart these last few days in learning that Steph has died. I had already penned a short note to her to let her know of my thoughts and prayers, but hadn't even had a chance to mail it when I learned the sad news. Please accept my condolences at this great loss. Steph was a genuine and generous friend to me in so many ways, always sharing a positive outlook on life, even in the midst of her pain and struggle. With her abiding trust in the love of God, she brought hope to everyone and inspired so many in her celebration of life and relationships. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers during this delicate time. We give her back to God with gratitude for the gift she has been to so many.

Just learned today about Stephanie's passing on August 11th and so sorry for the loss of another wonderful swimming friend. In early October 2016, I informed her about the passing of another one of our favorite swimmers, Tom Krug. She was saddened with the loss of our friend just as we are deeply saddened by her passing. Sincerest sympathy and condolences to Stepanie's family and friends ... Delia

I just heard this sad news; it came just a day after I'd been thinking about Steph although I'd not seen her for many years. We were teammates for a time on the 1776 masters swim team. At one national championships, she swam the mile on the first day (although she really hated that event, as I recall), the maximum three events on the second day, and the first two events on the program on the third day -- cramming them all in (6 events was the limit) to rack up as many team points as possible before racing to the airport to get to a wedding. And I also recall her email to me, reminding me to get psyched up for my two best events a couple of weeks before Nationals. I'll bet I was one of only many who'd gotten such attention from her. We've lost a good one.

I was so sorry to hear of Stephie's passing. My heart goes out to the whole family. We were friends for a very long time both as team mates and then through our years of coaching. Her enthusiasm, determination and willingness to be supportive was a strength that made her a motivation for others to follow. She will be missed by many but her legacy will live on in each of us that knew and loved her. Please find peace as time goes by and again to the family my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Stephanie was a passionate and compassionate leader. She gave her time to her peers in the financial services community. She gave her medals to the special Olympic kids and time to her sport of swimming. She gave her love to her family and friends. Over the many years of serving on Boards together or seeing her with her siblings or just catching up, Steph was always helpful and caring. She will be missed by all and well remembered.
My prayers and best wishes to all of her family and friends.

My heart is broken at the loss of such an amazing lady. I was so fortunate to work with her when she was district manager for Equitable years ago. Stephanie taught me a lot and we maintained a wonderful friendship for many years after that. My thoughts and prayers are with the Walsh family during this difficult time.

So sad to hear here in Budapest (World Masters Swimming Championships) of the passing of a special swimming friend. A devoted masters swimmer, she inspired us all and kept the Vesper "alumni" in touch with each other. She will be sadly missed. She had such an accomplished life in so many areas. My thoughts are with the family at this sombre time.

Stephanie was one of those special people that could light up a room. She always made everyone feel loved and accepted. She especially loved her family and took special pride in being the oldest of 15. Her Christmas cards always included a beautiful and inspiration saying that caused you to reflect. She was my former manager (Waynsborough Country Club), swimming buddy, and friend. Stephanie will be sorely missed but her energy will live on. My prayers are with her family.

I am very sorry to hear of Stephanie's passing. I was a member of the H-R Swim Team when Stephanie became our coach--only a few years after Title IX was passed. She was very much up to the challenge of the job in spite of her youth. We stayed in touch through the years, but the last I saw her was in the early 90's at the Masters in Indianapolis. I am fortunate to have known Stephanie.

I was one of the hundreds of people who came to St. Monica's Church last night and today to celebrate Stephanie's life. I was awed by how many people whose lives were touched by my friend.
In recent years Steph and I ceebrated each other's birthday at lunch often after 12:05 mass. I want to share a special memory I have of one of those birthdays. When she was turning 65, Steph threw a big party to celebrate the occasion. When each guest was leaving, she was handed an envelope containing a $20 bill and a note. "Please celebrate my birthday by doing something nice for somebody"

That was my friend, always thinking of "the other." Today happens to be Steph's birthday. No more lunches but so many special memories!

I met Stephanie and was introduced to her family and the many siblings just a few years ago. From the minute I met her I knew this was a remarkable leader. We corresponded over the last few years trading stories of what it was like growing up in a big family. The conversation never lagged as Stephanie embraced everything about life. I know she is surrounded by so much love from those many in the Beilman/Walsh groups. Our prayers are with you all.

Stephanie always had a unique multitasking ability that allowed her to favorable touch and inspire so many people over her 67 years. She was never on the sidelines for anything. Steph was always involved in helping, and always there for her family, her business, her associates, her clients, her industry, her sport, her Church, and so many organizations over the years.
Her smile was real and her interest in everyone that she met was sincere.
The best word I can think of to describe this remarkable woman is Genuine...
And because of that, Stephanie will be deeply missed by so many people who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives....
RIP my friend, and condolences to the most extended Walsh family

I have known Stephanie since 4th grade, 1958. She was beautiful, intelligent, athletic, and an overachiever in everything that she undertook. In 2005 we renewed our long friendship, and organized two "Class of 1963" reunions, 2006, and our 50th in 2013. Each year we would meet for lunch with other classmates in Wayne, and catch up with all of our current doings!! The world has lost an Iconic Lady.

I met Stephanie as a Freshman at Holy Child in Rosemont. She has kept our little class together for 50 years & organized a wonderful reunion for us just a few weeks ago. I too enjoyed her Christmas updates.....communication & the importance of staying in touch is a lesson I have learned from Steph. I pray that she celebrates her birthday tomorrow in a better place with the God she so loved. We are all better for having known you, Stephanie!

Stephanie has always held a special place in my heart. She would never claim credit for it but she was actually the spark that afforded me the opportunity to meet my husband. I don't know if she realized that she was an angel right here on earth serving a very specific purpose in my life but I knew it and for that I will always be grateful. I will miss the yearly birthday cards and the way Stephanie made me feel loved and cared for simply by taking the time to write a few sweet words. She was a proud woman who felt the need to take care of others but also was wise enough to know how to be humble in those moments when courage was so critical. Inspiring, empowering and faith-seeking...what an impression to leave on so many.
"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!"
-Matthew 25:21

Thank you for the blessing of your friendship, Steph! Now it's your turn to fly;)

Stephanie was an inspiration to many and a friend to all. I met Steph when I joined the Rotary Club of Paoli, Malvern, Berwyn. Steph was the first woman member of the club and the first woman president and my model of what a Rotarian should be, helping others, serving the community, while demonstrating kindness and caring. Thank you Steph for the beautiful person you have been. I and many others are better people because of you.

I met Stephanie when I was 10 years old. I watched her on the blocks at swimming meets until I was 17 years old, and she gave me courage and strength. She has inspired me to this day. She and Mary Freeman Kelly helped mold me to the person I am today. I'm sending love to the Walsh family and to all the Vesper Boat Club swimmers.

I have know Stephie since grade school at St Katherine's Wayne, Pa. I trusted her with all my secrets and joys. She remained a true and faithful friend despite our living on different continents through out he last 46 years. I loved receiving her family Christmas greeting each year where I could share the successes and delights of her large family many of whom were the same age as my 7 sisters and brother. I also shared my faith with her and I loved knowing that she got it. She was a wise, generous, loving and vital woman. Her mother Barbara and siblings must feel a deep sense of loss. I suppose she is now up there watching over us and guiding us on our paths. My deepest condolences to her sons and large loving family.

Dear members of Stephanie's huge and extended family:
Words cannot express the sense of sadness we all feel on Stephanie's passing. I've known her since my coaching days at Wellesley, in the early 1970's, when she coached Radcliffe, as well as us being New England Masters swim teammates. Over the years she has never forgotten birthdays, anniversaries, or Christmas. What an extraordinary woman. The world is a better place because of Stephanie. I know I am a better person for having known her.
Sincerely,
Sue Tendy
