MINKWITZ

VERNON C. JR., age 67, of Hockessin, DE and Vineland, NJ, passed away on May 3, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with chronic lung disease. Vern loved history, especially military history, and since the 1960's, he had been involved in the hobby of painting miniature military figures. He was active in the Military Figure Collector Assoc. (MFCA) of Philadelphia, the Artist Preservation Group and has displayed his work and competed in Military Figure shows across the USA and in Europe. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing, gourmet cooking, and was a fan of many sports including bicycle, car and motorcycle racing and local sports teams (Phillies and Eagles).
For many years, Vern worked as a ferrier, putting shoes on standard bred race horses, trotters and pacers in New Jersey and at race tracks including Liberty Bell Track in Philadelphia.
Vern was predeceased by his parents Vernon C. and Eileen Minkwitz of Vineland, NJ and his grandson George H. Coates, V. He is survived by his wife Margaret, his brother Harold (Eleanor) Minkwitz, his sister Lilian (John) McHugh, 4 step-children and 8 grandchildren. At his request, there will be no visitation and burial will be private.
