Coach Veith was my track coach during my years at Central from 1970-1972. He was an awesome coach, an excellent teacher, and a superb human being. I learned a lot about track and field, but even more about life from him. I'll never forget that our class (231) voted Coach Veith as the most respected teacher at Central during my senior year. You'll never be forgotten...

I was a member of the Track Team for four years, including the team that Coach Veith led to the Public League and City Titles in 1962. In some ways, many years ago, but also in some ways it can seem like not too long ago! I wish to let the family know that I will always associate Coach Veith with extremely fond memories, and will always appreciate his efforts to help all of us on the team live up to our potentials!

Dear family of Mr. Ed Veith
I am so very sorry to hear of Mr. Veith's passing. Please know that all of his students at Central High School adored him. He is one of the reasons that this school has earned such a wonderful reputation.

My most sincere condolences to all the Veith Family. Coach Veith was my Track Coach when Central won the Public League and City Championship in 1962. I was a 10th grader in the 223 Class. Few people understood the magnitude of this accomplishment. Overbrook had dominated the city in Track and Field for many years before and after our victory. We could not have done it without Coach Veith's leadership.

May Coach rest in peace. I got to know him as a manager for his track and football teams. As a member of the 1970 City Champions, he became an icon who my children got to meet later in life. My oldest daughter bounced on his knee as he kept the clock at football games. She became infatuated with sports and is now a PE teacher in Phila as well as having followed in his footsteps at Breezy Pt. as a counselor. Mr Veith's presence was intimidating as a student, but he always had a softer side towards his "boys". I ran into him at many sporting events and developed a great relationship with him. Best of all was a story of when my wife (a NE grad) was working at Neshaminy Middle and spoke of a coach who her husband admired greatly. And she was telling this to his daughter Carol, a teacher at the school who immediately realized of whom she spoke. May Coach Veith rest in piece and locate a golf course to in the great beyond to keep him occupied...

Mr.Veith was my Phys Ed teacher at Central back in the late 50's (I'm class of 214) and, if memory serves me correctly, also my JV Baseball coach one of those years. Anyhow, he was certainly one of the good guys at CHS who made my years at Central memorable. Condolencesto the Veith family.

Mr. Veith was my PE teacher at Central High. I remember him as a fair man who always challenged his students. As Sports Editor for the Centralizer, I had many opportunities to see him in action on the football field. Later, I had the privilege of getting to know two of his daughters, Susan and Laura, when I taught at Neshaminy High School. Mr. Veith you were an original and made many positive, indelible impressions on many of us. I will never forget you. May God Bless you and your family.

Coach Veith was my Football Coach for 3 years at Central. During that period we won the Public League, 2 Division Championships and the City Championship. As a Halfback, he admonished me to "get the knees up and don't let them take you down." I was a Honorable Mention High School All-American thanks to Coach Veith's support and went on to play at the Naval Academy. He was not only one of the best coaches I have ever had and one of the best men I have ever known. I have missed him. Ken Anderson "231"

Coach Veith, was an awesome presence. I remember walking into the locker room when I applied to be a Team Manager and saw the name "Zeus" tapped to the door. I said to myself, what have I got myself into? But we won the City Championship that year and I got to see an Old Fashioned Coach in action. It was an honor and priviledge to know him. Rest in Peace Coach. Sam Barham

I had the pleasure to play football for Coach Veith on the '66-'68 teams. In 1967 we won the Public League Championship - Jackie Gorman leading the way as the star quarterback. As a fullback, Coach Veith's "three yards and a cloud of dust" system and my straight ahead style were simpatico. "36" and "37' and watch for the cutback. Playing football at Central for Coach Veith (we used to call him "Zeus" because of his bellowing voice) was one of the best and most formative experiences in my life. I have always been grateful for the opportunity to play and for the lessons he taught me about hard work, teamwork, and perseverance. The proof of the pudding is in the eating; I'm still doing it. Coach Veith will be sorely missed by me and all of my teammates and classmates. THANK YOU!
