WILLIAM A., JR. on April 28, 2012, age 74, formerly of Prospect Park and Southwest Philadelphia, PA; born July 6, 1937; predeceased by his mother Mary E. Simmons (nee Pohlig), his brother Charles Simmons, who died at a young age, and his father William A. Simmons, Sr. Former Matre'd at "Oscars" Restaurant at the Sheraton "Hotel of the Stars" in Universal City, CA and long-time employee of Sheraton Hotels National, former U.S. Marine, actor, and aspiring writer. A raconteur, he enjoyed telling tales of the guests he hosted as Matre'd, including Queen Elizabeth II, Nancy Reagan, Arabian sheiks and a cast of other celebrities and interesting characters and his time in the U.S. Marines. Multiple appearances on stage, including the Death of a Salesman at the Santa Monica Playhouse and The Glass Menagerie at the Hollywood Playhouse, and films including Ivanov for PBS-TV in Philadelphia, and television commercials. He also enjoyed helping local medical schools as a "patient" actor. He loved to follow and discuss sports and was a frequent caller, "Bill from Philadelphia," on Joe Paterno's Penn State radio show. Private services were held at the convenience of the family.
