PATOMA GRICE, a retired teacher, passed away of cancer on August 13, 2013 at her home in Willingboro, NJ.
Mrs. Brooks-Riley was born and raised in Philadelphia Pa. She graduated from Girls' High School in 1953. She attended Immaculata College on a full music scholarship and in 1957. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music becoming the fourth black student to graduate from Immaculata. In 1960, Patoma earned her Master of Education degree from Temple University.
She worked as an elementary school teacher in the School District of Philadelphia from 1957 until she retired in 1990. She was one of the first to be selected to teach the mentally gifted in the city.
Patoma is survived by a son, Martin and life partner, Rod McCarthy of Dallas TX. and a daughter, Patricia of Rich-mond, Va. Patoma is prede-ceased by her husband, Eugene Riley and by her former husband, Richard Brooks. She is also predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Althea and Anthony Ray.
