DONALD KNAUFF Obituary
He was born on July 15, 1925 in Chambersburg, PA to the late Leonard and Louise (Helman) Knauff.
He was a United States Marine Corps. Veteran of WWII. During his service he trained K9's for active duty and was stationed in the South Pacific.
Dr. Knauff was retired from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals after over 33 years of service. During his employment with Wyeth he was involved in the production of smallpox vaccine and later in the making of the two different types of polio vaccine.
A member and past president of the Rotary Club of Wayne, PA, Dr. Knauff served as governor of Rotary District 7450 in the Philadelphia area in 1996-97. After his retirement from Wyeth Laboratories, he assisted Rotary International and the United Nations Foundation in seeking funds from the private sector for polio eradication. In 2002 his relationship to Rotary and Wyeth Vaccines and Nutrition helped lay the foundation for a $1,000,000 grant to the World Health Organization to support the African Region of the Global Polio Laboratory Network in their efforts to identify the last reservoirs of the wild poliovirus." He was a past member of the Donegal Presbyterian Church and was eventually a member of the Wayne Presbyterian Church serving as an elder and Sunday school teacher at both churches. All of his life he was involved in numerous community activities.
Surviving are his wife Elizabeth (Hicks) Knauff, two daughters Kay L. Kopp of Canton, Ohio, Susan C. Klopp and her husband Daniel of Austin, Texas, a son Brian Lee Knauff and his wife Marcelle of Marietta, GA, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at 2P.M. on Sunday, August 31, 2014 in Freedom Village at Brandywine.
Memorial contributions in Dr. Knauff's honor may be made to the scholarship fund of Freedom Village at Brandywine, 15 Freedom Boulevard Coatesville, PA 19320.
Arrangements are under the care of the Miller-Sekely Funeral Home & Crematory of Elizabethtown, PA.
