Abby and I were law school classmates. He was a bright, lovely man, who succeeded in business and made his mark in our city with his iconic restaurants. We did business together when I ran Jefferson Bank, and he was loyal, honest, reliable, and of the highest character. May his soul be bound up in eternal life.

I worked with Abbie over the past few years in a business relationship. His warmth, intelligence, energy and smile were truly a treat for me. My thoughts go out to Ken and his wife whom I have had the pleasure of seeing them expand Abbie's vision with an eye always to please the customer. Abbie and his partners created a legend - one that Philadelphia embraced for decades as a showcase for the city he loved. Abbie was a proud man - we are all proud of Abbie. Rest in peace. Jeff Gaynor

The world lost a wonderful soul when Abner Silver died and left us on Tuesday.
I met Abner when he called me to review the architectural drawings for Abner's Steaks at 38th & Chestnut. We found from the outset that we shared the vision he had for this undertaking and we began work using an open-book, trusting, time & material agreement. Toward the end of the project, my briefcase was stolen from my truck. In these pre-computer days, a 2" thick sheaf of paperwork, now gone, was the only record of our balance. Abner asked me "what do you think is the amount due?" When I told him my best guess was somewhere around $13,000, that's what he wrote me a check for.
Abbie lives on in me and in the many people he touched through his acts of kindness and generosity. He was honest and fair in the way he did business. He was attentive and genuinely interested in everyone with whom he came in contact. He didn't allow problems to interfere with his positive attitude, nor did he let his successes change his humble, accepting nature.
He was a teacher, by example, to everyone who paid attention to how he lived his live and how he related to others.
I loved that man.
