DORIS ELIZABETH HEINLY, 91, ROYERSFORD Doris Elizabeth Heinly helped out family and friends in many ways, including the "elderly," even when she laughed that she also fit into that category. She chose a career that promoted healthy eating habits. She sang in the choir at Haws Ave. Methodist Church in Norristown for at least 30 years and was a member of Royersford United Methodist Church. She kept up with the news and had opinions about the latest events. She traveled extensively with several friends throughout the U.S. and abroad. She was liked and respected as a supervisor, a friend, and a relative. Miss Heinly passed away on July 10, 2014, at age 91 at the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center following a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Royersford and recently of Manatawny Manor where she enjoyed listening to, bantering with, and having fun with her caregivers. She greatly appreciated those relationships and cared very much about those who cared for her. Miss Heinly was born July 20, 1922, daughter of Harvey George & Mary Diehl Heinly. She is survived by her brother Harvey James Heinly and his wife Anna of Landis Homes, Lititz; and by beloved nieces and nephews and their spouses (and children) Russell Smith and Sandy, El Paso, TX; Audrey Smith Nelson and Steve, Knoxville, TN; Janice Heinly Gravely and James, Morganton, NC; Allen Heinly and Diane, Mount Joy, PA; and Gary Heinly and Barbara, Mount Joy, PA. She is also survived by Delma Evans, a dear friend of many decades, Manatawny Manor, Pottstown. She was predeceased by her sister Marion Loraine Smith and her nephew Larry Smith, both of Orlando, FL. Miss Heinly graduated in 1940 from Royersford H.S. and in 1944 from Catawba College, Salisbury, NC, with a BS in Dietetics. She worked at a number of jobs after graduation, and then was employed by the Norristown School District from 1953, when she started as Cafeteria Manager with 2 schools and 2 employees, until her retirement in 1980 when she was in charge of 13 schools and 85 employees. A Life Celebration of Doris E. Heinly will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Royersford United Methodist Church, 380 Church St. at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spring-Ford Area Historical Society, 526 Main St., Royersford, PA 19468.
