Carl B. Lewis
Virginia Beach - LCDR Carl B. Lewis USN (Ret.), 83, passed away peacefully April 23, 2013 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Lewis was born February 23, 1930 to the late Clarence and Sylvia Lewis in Tampa, FL. He served our country proudly in the U.S. Navy for 24 years beginning his career in Key West, FL. as a submariner, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Following his military service he went on to establish a career in real estate. Mr. Lewis loved spending time with his family, especially trips he and his beloved wife would take in the mountains, skiing, hiking and enjoying the outdoors. He loved working in his yard and would often share plants with neighbors and friends. A number of the plants can still be found throughout the Kempsville area. Mr. Lewis will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish his memory are: his devoted wife of 62 years, Marleen Lewis; two daughters, Carol Martins and Patricia Skees; three grandsons: Peyton Mule´ and wife Cassidy, Avery Skees and wife Darcie and Dustin Skees; sister, Bertha Mastriano and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, April 26, at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Please share your condolences with family at www.smithandwilliamskempsville.com

Carl was my Chief of the Boat aboard USS Chopper in Key West. I will never forget this good man. Hand Salute, Shipmate, maybe we'll meet again when I cross the bar.

Our prayers are with Carl's family. Carl was a real gentleman and wonderful neighbor, I will miss seeing and talking with him.

Carl captivated us with his great sense of humor and great stories. We spent many wonderful times together with him, Marleen, and Sugar's best friend Murphy. We miss you very much and are very thankful for your friendship over the years.
