Nancy C. Boyd Chesapeake - Nancy C. Boyd, 82, of Chesapeake passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014. Mrs. Boyd was the daughter of the late Thedford and Exie Sayers. She was also predeceased by her brother, John C. Sayers.Nancy was born on August 24, 1932. She was raised in Richlands, VA where she met her husband, John. Nancy worked at Pinkerton Security for 22 years as a Security Supervisor. Survivors include her devoted husband of 64 years, John Boyd; son, Doug Boyd (Kay); 2 granddaughters; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Joann Rowland (Bob); She also leaves behind many loved family members and dear friends. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2014 in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Rd, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Rd. Chesapeake, 23322. Barry, Linda M. - Virginia Beach  
Linda M. Barry Virginia Beach - Linda Marie Barry, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 12th; daughter of Bill and Helen Oakes, she was born and raised in Freehold , NJ where she met her beloved Paul on a blind date and had celebrated 40 years of marriage this year. Linda had retired from HSBC in Chesapeake in 2010. Survived by her husband, Paul; and three sons, Kevin, Kenny, Keith and his wife Caitlin. In addition to her precious memories are her twin granddaughters, Ayla and Sydney (Linda's "Babycakes"). Linda is also survived by her sister, Eileen; and two brothers, Bobby and Billy. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8pm on Wednesday, December 17th at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. "Say not in grief that she is no more, but say in thankfulness that she was."

Betts, Harvey Nixon - Chesapeake  
Harvey Nixon Betts Chesapeake - Harvey Nixon Betts Greensboro: Harvey Nixon Betts, 67, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Wesley Long Hospital. He was born on October 19, 1947 in Norfolk County, VA., the son of the late Newman and Edna Wright Betts. Harvey served his country in the US Air Force and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a sales representative in the sporting goods field and later was involved in real estate. Those surviving are his loving wife Betty Sharp Betts of the home; sister, Lora Sawyer (Tommy) of Chesapeake, VA; brothers, Newman B. Betts (Sandi) of Watkinsville, GA and Henry V. Betts (Susie) of Portsmouth, VA, and loving nieces and a nephew. A graveside service was held on Monday, December 15, 2014 at New Garden Cemetery, Greensboro, NC with military honors. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4 Oak Branch Dr. Greensboro, NC 27407 Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel is assisting the Betts family. Brock Jr., William I. - Portsmouth  
William I. Brock, Jr. Portsmouth - William Ivey Brock, Jr., 84, of the 2000 block of Leckie St. went home to be with the LORD on Friday December 12, 2014. Bill grew up in Tarboro, NC. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Virginia Beach Freewill Baptist Church. Bill was in the music recording industry for 30 years as a writer, recording artist, manager, arranger and record producer. Fourteen of those years were spent on music row in Nashville, TN. Bill had over 200 songs published. In 1975 Bill joined the staff of The Christian Broadcasting Network and created House Top Records and its two music publishing companies. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; son, Seth; sister, Marie; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, December 16 in Virginia Beach Freewill Baptist Church, 210 S. Witchduck Rd., by the Rev. J.D. Norris. Burial will be 12 noon on Wednesday in Greenwood Cemetery, Tarboro, N.C. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to the church. Delia Barcliff Virginia Beach - Delia Mae Barcliff, 82, of the 400 Block of Gary Ave., departed this life peacefully at home, December 7, 2014. She was a native of Nansemond County, VA and was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Sylvester and Cora Lee Giles and her husband, Cornelius Barcliff. Delia is survived by her two daughters, Algeria Hargraves and Keonya Brown (Michael), both of Virginia Beach. Siblings, Timothy Edwards of Newport News, and Earnestine Delk of Smithfield, one sister-in-law, Margaret Barcliff, of Virginia Beach, seven grandchildren, Frederick, Sean, Donovan (Jessica), Michael, Stephen, Precious and Miguel and ten great grandchildren, Asha, Trent, Exadreonna, Ceyaira, Zaniah, Kamari, Donovan, Jr., Fred, Jr., Josiah and Jayceon. The Family will receive friends for viewing at Community Funeral Home, 1210 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk on December 14, 2014 from 2-4 pm. A celebration of her life will be held on December 15, 2015 at Noon at St. Mark AME Church 1740 Potters Road, Virginia Beach, with the Rev. Eugenia Bowser officiating. Clara Mae Barnes Chesapeake - Clara Mae Baxley Barnes, 83, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014. Born in Lumberton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Annie Baxley. She was the widow of Luther C. Barnes, Jr. and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Matt Barnes. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Rita B. Brown, Phyllis B. Hudgins, Patty B. Etheredge and Carol B. Salmon (Kevin); sons, Lloyd Barnes (Barbara) and Ronnie Barnes (Jenny); grandchildren, Steve, Dave, Lisa, Joey, Chris, Amber, Lil Rudy, Kevin Jr., Sean, Scott, Kyle, Tony, Beau and Heather; great grandchildren, Brad, Stephanie, Tiffany, Tyler, Ryan, Caleigh, Cody, Brady, Braden, Caleb, Gabrielle, MacKenzy, Aiden, Kierstyn, Jaxson, Mason, and Gabe; great-great grandchildren, Brinly and Kylie; and five sisters of NC. A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014 at Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. Black, Raymond M. - Portsmouth  
Raymond M. Black Portsmouth - Raymond Maurice Black of Portsmouth, VA went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 8, 2014. He was born March 15, 1925 in Norfolk, VA to the late Robert J. & Rosa (Segar) Black. He was married to Dolores Ernestine (Fazarro) Black for 64 years, until her death in 2013. Raymond served in the US Army during WWII and retired from the US Postal Services in Norfolk after 42 years of service. He is survived by two daughters, Dolores E. Black & Ramona (Johann) Odom; two sons, Roderick (Patricia) Black & Ronald E. Black; ten grandchildren, Soyini (Frank) Brown, Khari (Estalyn) Martin, & Kandi McFarland; Jessica (Yusef) Echols, Jennifer, Ian, Janette, & Alan Odom; Roderick Jr. & Samuel Black; and one great-grandson, Oberon Martin; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Raymond, Jr & his brothers, Roland & Robert Black and sisters Emma Black, Rosa White, Annie Shaw, & Olga Steverson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Graves Funeral Home, 1631 Church Street, Norfolk, VA. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk, VA.

Bond, Ordean W. - Norfolk  
Ordean W. Bond Norfolk - Ordean Wynn Bond peacefully entered eternal rest with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. She retired from Norfolk Public Schools after 37 years of devoted service. She is survived by her husband, Willie Bond, Jr., a son Anthone Bond (Cheryl), a daughter, Shannon O. Bond, and three "grand angels", Zaire, Amari, and Khalidah, her father Herbert Wynn, Sr., four sisters Brenda Dalton (Aubrey), Cynthia Booker, Janice House (Ernest), Teressa Gordon (Shelton); two brothers, Maurice Wilson (Gail) and Herbert Wynn, Jr. and a sister-in-law, Dr. Debra Bond-Clarke (William). In addition, she is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, friends, and her church family. She was predeceased by her mother, Lillian T. Wynn. A celebration of life service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 15, at Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, 1057 Kennedy St., Norfolk, VA 23513.
