Charles Deering, III Norfolk - Charles Deering, III, "Boochie", 55, of 1014 Merrimac Avenue went to be with the Lord April 11, 2015. He was born to Elizabeth Deering and the late Charles Deering, Jr. He attended Booker T. Washington High School. Charles retired from Mid-Atlantic Coca Cola. He leaves to cherish in his memory; three sons, Charles, Christopher and Cordell Curtis; one sister, three brothers and one grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held, 12pm, Saturday, April 18, 2015 at St. Joseph A.M.E. Zion Church, 1540 Atlantic Avenue, Chesapeake, VA. A wake service will be held, 6pm-8pm, Friday, April 17, 2015 at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby. The family will assemble at 1014 Merrimac Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23504. Dickens, Jean W. - Chesapeake  
Jean W. Dickens Chesapeake - Jean Delores West Dickens was born on May 29, 1936 to the late James E. West and Gladys West Pretlow. She went home to be with her heavenly Father on April 11, 2015. Being a graduate of the Booker T. Washington High School's class of 1954, Jean furthered her pursuit of teaching at Virginia State College (University) finishing in 1958. She then taught at the Blind and Deaf School in Raleigh, North Carolina, resulting in her fluent knowledge of Braille and sign language. She received her Master's of Education with an emphasis in Administration and Supervision from Hampton University. After working for 36 years in the Norfolk Public School System as a teacher and title one reading specialist, she retired in 1993. Jean Dickens was initiated into the Omicron Pi Omega Chapter Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority on February 27, 1987 and became a silver star in 2012. She also served as the Financial Secretary of the Chesapeake PEARLS which co-sponsored the Debutant Cotillion and she came in contact with each Debutant from 2005 to 2012. Jean is a chapter member of the Chesapeake Chapter of Delicados, Inc. where she was a member for 44 years. During these years she served as President, Financial Secretary and Treasurer. She also served as Recording Secretary on the National Level. Jean was a member of the LPC Social Club and the Asters Social Club. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Arthur S. Dickens; a son, Arthur Jenard Dickens (Theresa); a sister, Marlene W. Randall (Vernon); a special sister, Cynthia Hines (Leon); two grandchildren, Rachel Russell and Arthur Jenard Dickens, Jr. and many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held, 12pm, Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Berkley, Rev. Dr. Charles Hart, presiding. AKA and Delicados, Inc. services will be held from 6-8pm, Friday, April 17, 2015 at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley. Condolences may be offered at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com .

Paul Davis Chesapeake - Paul H. Davis Jr., 68 passed away peacefully on April 11th, 2015. Born in Va. Beach, VA he was the son of the late Paul H. and Geraldine Davis. He was also preceded in death by his brother Gerald who is survived by wife Sonja. He leaves to cherish his memory his children: son Paul and wife Robin, daughter Sarah, two grandchildren, sisters Linda Tingle and husband Mike and Rebecca Craig and husband Don and a host of special nieces, nephews, family and friends. A memorial service will be scheduled and held at a later date.

Dean, Robert D. - Virginia Beach  
Robert D. Dean Virginia Beach - Robert Daniel Dean, 82, passed away April 13, 2015. He was born on June 15, 1932 in Norfolk to the late Jesse James Dean and the late Lola (Winstead) Hitt. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian (Griffin) Dean. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Vivvian Dean Smith and Virginia Dean Caudill and husband Phillip; grandsons, Corey Daniel Smith and his wife, Julie, and Nathaniel Edward Smith and his fiancé, Jacqueline Branson. Robert spent 35 years with Piedmont Airlines, starting as a steward and retiring as a Captain, flying 767's. He was a member of the American Pilots' Association and a member of QB (Quite Bird). He captained his own charter boats locally and in the Florida Keys. He was a subscriber of the Virginia Stage Company for 35 years. He and his wife of 60 years, Lillian, enjoyed ballroom dancing. If he wasn't flying, he was fishing. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11am in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd, Va. Beach, with Pastor Lee Seibert officiating. Danner Sr., Robert Lea - Virginia Beach  
Robert Lea Danner, Sr. Virginia Beach - Robert Danner, Sr., 85, departed this earth on April 7, 2015. Born in Seattle, Washington to parents Stella and Albert Lea Danner. Brother to Charles Danner of Seattle. Bob was the devoted and loving husband of Marilyn for 64 years. He is survived by his children: Deborah, Robert Jr., Mary Christine (MC), and Steven; four grand children and six great grandchildren. Bob and Marilyn raised their family in California then moved to rural Virginia Beach where they resided for over 35 years. They have been strong advocates in protecting farm land and the environment. Bob was a member of Mensa. His strong belief in education earned him two PhDs. He was also an ordained minister where he used his many talents to teach and volunteer for numerous groups offering his talents as a gifted artist, writer, graphic artist, and speaker. He used his humor and sensitivity to lift up and encourage each of the thousands of lives he touched. Memorial services for Robert Lea Danner, Sr. will be held Sunday April 19, 2:00 pm at Charity United Methodist Church, 4080 Charity Neck Rd., Virginia Beach, Virginia. Daughtrey, Audrey - Portsmouth  
Audrey Daughtrey Portsmouth - Audrey White Peddy Daughtrey, 101, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2015. Born in Portsmouth, VA, she was the daughter of the late Annie Mae and Allen White. She was predeceased by her husband Rudolph, a bother Lawrence Allen "Buster" White, and her sisters Inez Jewell, Phyllis Spivey, Margaret Brown, and Geneva Brown. Audrey was a devoted member of Park View Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher and deaconess for many years. After retiring from the Naval Supply Center, she enjoyed traveling, which included a trip around the world. She also began painting at The Beasley Foundation and researching her family's genealogy. She is survived by her son, Leonard Peddy (Hildegard); a daughter, Frances Peddy Moore (Judson); four grandchildren; Barbara Peddy Bryant (Bill), Thomas Peddy, Claudette Moore Lane, and Gregory Moore; six great grandchildren, a sister Alice Hanes; a nephew; and several nieces. A caregiver, Jane Crusie, was a very special friend as well as Noel and Wayne Brewer who were very faithful visitors. A funeral service will be held at Loving Funeral Home on Wednesday April 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. conducted by the Reverend Aaron Brittain. The family will receive friends in the funeral home one hour before the service. Donahue, Mary Patricia Johnson - Virginia Beach  
Mary Patricia Johnson Donahue Virginia Beach - Mary Patricia "Patty" Donahue, 65, passed away on April 11, 2015. She was born in Poughkeepsie, NY to Edward J. & Elsie McCarty Johnson. Mary Johnson Donahue was a member of the New York and Virginia Bar Associations and she specialized in elder law. She was a past president of the Portsmouth Bar Association, and an active member of the Norfolk - Portsmouth Bar Association, and the first woman member of the Chesapeake Bar Association. Other community involvements included: 4H Club leader, participant of the Susan Komen Foundation Race for the Cure, member of the social ministry committee and a Sunshine Lady at the Church of the Holy Apostles, past member of the AAUW and the Chesapeake Business & Professional Women's Association. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Larry E. Donahue; Son, Thomas Edward Donahue & fiancée Phyllis Buckner Barnes; sister, Wilma Ann Johnson of Bennington, VT; Nephew, Nicholas Johnson & wife Sarah and their three children of Brookfield, Ct.; life-long friends, Edward & Catherine Kehrig; along with extended family and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
