Lewis, Elsie Bond - Norfolk  
Elsie Bond Lewis Norfolk - Elsie Bond Lewis of Norfolk, VA entered into eternal rest on December 19, 2014. She was born to the late Pency Bond and John Thomas Bond on July 24, 1937. Elsie was a 1957 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School where she was a member o the I. Sherman Green Singing Chorale. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from Norfolk State University where served on the Dean's List. Elsie was a member of New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries where she was an Evangelist and served on the Mother's Board. Elsie was the lead singer of the Travelettes of Richmond, VA and was also one of the lead singers of the United Mission Young Adult Choir in Norfolk, VA. She was a great gospel singer. One of her favorite songs was "God is Standing By". Elsie was a childhood friend and classmate of Shirley Caesar. Besides her parents, Elsie is predeceased by her husband, Robert Lewis, Sr.; two sisters, Senator Yvonne Miller and Carolyn Bond Coleman; three brothers, Phillip Bond, William Bond and John Bond. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Gail Walker, Vanessa Nixon and Patricia Lewis; six sons, Robert H. Lewis, Jr., Kenneth Lewis, Lee Lewis, Vincent Lewis, Mark Lewis and Damaris Harrell; one sister, Rosa Bond; granddaughter, Shanta Lewis Peterson, three great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to send a special thanks to her nurse, Glenda Lee Matthews of Suffolk, VA. A homegoing service will be held, 11am, Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St. Norfolk, VA. The family will receive friends, 5pm-7pm, Friday at the funeral home. David Wayne Lawson Portsmouth - David Wayne Lawson, 68, of the 2000 block of Elmhurst Lane, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 21, 2014 in his residence. A native of Wythe Co., VA, he was a retired comptroller for the State of Virginia. Survivors include his daughter, Chrissie Lawson; step-daughter, Misty Hecker; step-son, Bubba Seward; sisters, Judy Vaughan, Vicky Lawson and Bonnie Freeman; brother, Ronald Lawson, Sr.; and grandchildren, Blake, Blair Panlilio and Jesse Seward He was predeceased by sisters, Wanda Lawson and Penny Ramsey and brothers, William and Clyde Lawson. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 27, in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Laura B. Larner Norfolk - Died on December 4 at the age of 88 She is survived by her two brothers. Jasper Hardin, James Hardin and numerous Nieces and Nephews. She will be missed dearly by all that knew her. As per her wishes, there will be no services or flowers. She has been Cremated and will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with Her Beloved husband Bill.

Lassiter Sr., Bobby R. - Hobbsville  
Bobby R. Lassiter, Sr. Hobbsville, NC - Bobby Ray Lassiter, Sr., 67, of 144 Catherine Creek Road, died Thursday, December 18, 2014 in his home. Mr. Lassiter was born on October 7, 1947 in Gates County and was the son of the late James E., Sr. and Maude Piland Lassiter. Retired from Lipton Tea Co., he also had owned and operated B & J Bait and Tackle, and was a member of Warwick Baptist Church. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the 1st Air Calvary Division. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James E. Lassiter, Jr. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Joyce Faye Lassiter; two daughters, Wanda Lassiter and Lisa Wilkins and husband Floyd; and a son, Bobby Ray Lassiter, Jr. and wife Julie, all of Hobbsville; four sisters, Alice Lane and Nancy Byrd, both of Suffolk, VA, Jane Leonard of Elgin, IL, and Susie Lamb of Hobbsville; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and will be officiated by the Rev. Frank Ellington. Military rites will be accorded in the chapel. A private graveside service will follow in the family cemetery near the home. Lewis, Samuel J. - Virginia Beach  
Samuel J. Lewis Virginia Beach - Samuel Jennings Lewis, 93, passed away peacefully on at his home on December 19, 2014. He was born to the late Leroy H. Lewis and Eleanor Lewis, June 27, 1921 in Painter, Virginia on the Eastern Shore. Sam was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 28 and one of the founders and past presidents. He also was a life time member of the Virginia Police Association, retired Sergeant of the United States Army, a WWII Vet, and retired Naval Base Police Sergeant. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Betty Elizabeth Lewis. Sam most enjoyable moments were fishing and wood working in his shop he had named Sam's Play House where he spent many hours. He is survived by five children, Joyce, Sandra, Bobby, Sara, and Patty; ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. Friends may join the family following the service at Sam's residence. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Bon Secours Hospice, 3636 High St., Portsmouth, VA. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel is assisting the family. Ruth A. Liasse Virginia Beach - Ruth Ann Liasse, 68, passed away on December 17, 2014. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Joseph James Liasse of 30 years. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Lawrence J. Liasse of Va. Beach; two grandsons, Matthew Ryan Liasse of Ohio, Corey Alexander Liasse of Williamsburg; granddaughter, Gabrielle Echo-Paige Liasse of Chesapeake; and her beloved pets, Romeo, Rocky, Rex, Roxy, Reese, Rusty, and Mugsy.
