Bailey, Marie - Virginia Beach
Marie Bailey Virginia Beach - Marie Bailey, born Ethel Marie Moore on 12/17/1924, passed away on April 27, 2015 after a brief illness. Mrs. Bailey originally of Robersonville, North Carolina was surround by those who loved her at the time of her passing. The daughter of a tobacco salesman, Vernon Leonard Moore, and school teacher Ethel Clark Moore, she married Jack Warner Bailey, Jr. at the age of 19 before moving to the Tidewater Area. Marie gave birth to her only child, Virginia, in 1947. Marie was a tireless worker, who having found a passion in banking, worked her way up from a teller at Bank of Virginia to become one of the first female vice-presidents of a bank in Virginia. She retired from banking in the early 90s. During her early retirement she spent a lot of time travelling to Mexico, the Caribbean and Florida with her husband, Jack. After losing her husband in 1992, Marie continued her lifelong friendship with Mildred Morrisette who accompanied her on many adventures including family weddings in a variety of places including Massachusetts, California, and St. Thomas in addition to their yearly winter trips to Florida. It is during this time that Marie indulged her favorite pastime, bowling. Weekly, she would gather for lunch and a few games of bowling with her friends. Even after hurting her hand she would attend these weekly meetings to enjoy time with friends and support their game. Most will remember Marie as a warm and open person, a light to have in their life. She always had a smile to share with those she met and enjoyed being a greeter at the First Baptist Church of Virginia Beach. Marie is survived by her only child, daughter Virginia, 4 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Lovingly known as Big Nana, Marie will be remembered for her strength of will, wealth of faith, and sweet personality. The family is using H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel and services will be held at the First Baptist Church on Saturday May 9, 2015 at 2 pm. Marie then will be interred in a private family ceremony in Robersonville, North Carolina next to her husband and mother.
