Rawls Jr., Robert T. - Portsmouth  
Robert T. Rawls, Jr. Portsmouth - Robert Thomas Rawls, Jr. "Pie" departed this life on January 20, 2015. He was born on September 16, 1939, to Robert Thomas Rawls, Sr. and LaCountess Harrison Rawls. He was fondly called "Pie" by all of his family and most everyone else. He completed a successful enlistment in the U.S. Air Force, and later joined the U.S. Army, retiring as a Sergeant First Class with 20 years. He also served as a federal civilian employee retiring from the Durham VA Medical Center in Durham, NC. He is survived by his wife, Carole Joyce Rawls; three nieces: Gina Rawls Flythe (Kenneth), Rhonda Rawls Johnson (LaMonte), and Wanda Lee Simms; and two nephews, Alfred Lee Rawls, Jr., and Randy Lee Rawls (Keisha); two aunts, Mrs. Ethel Harrison and Mrs. Dorothy Harrison; and a host of in-laws, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and special friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his only sibling -- brother Alfred Lee Rawls, Sr. Funeral services will be conducted by Corprew Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 26, 2015, at St. John Baptist Church, Portsmouth, VA. Interment will be at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, in Suffolk, VA. The family will receive friends at 11 Reef Court, Portsmouth, VA 23703.

Reaves, Sharon Zipperer - Virginia Beach  
Sharon Zipperer Reaves Virginia Beach - Sharon Zipperer Reaves, 67, of the 2100 block of Vista Circle, passed away January 24, 2015. Mrs. Reaves was born in Norfolk, VA, the daughter of the late Gordon and Ann Zipperer. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Reaves, and her brother, Gordon W. Zipperer III ("Buddy"). Mrs. Reaves, or Sherry, as she was known to all her loved ones, spent all her life in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. After a career with B&Z Services and Teamsters Union, she retired to spend time with her family, most importantly her granddaughters. Sherry was the epitome of selfless, always putting others first. She had amazing patience, a strong sense of caring, and the rare ability to truly listen and give thoughtful advice to those in need. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie R. Craig, and her husband, Brian Taylor. She leaves her two granddaughters that knew her as "GeeGee," Danielle Craig and Lauren Taylor, all of Virginia Beach; her niece, Shanna Mobley and her husband, Bennett, and their son, Dexter; her sisters-in-law, Francis O'Brien, of Charlotte, NC, and Betty Lloyd, of Durham, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; a lifelong friend, Melodye Carr, of Norfolk; and "Her Boys," Anthony Carr and Shane Carr, both of Virginia Beach. A visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on January 26, 2015 at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. on Laskin Rd. in Virginia Beach, with a service to follow at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are welcome to join at 2140 Vista Circle, Unit 305 following the service. Donations in her memory can be made to The National Kidney Foundation or her church, Bayside Presbyterian.

Riddick, Claudia Jeanette - Portsmouth  
Claudia Jeanette Riddick Portsmouth - Claudia Jeanette Riddick of Portsmouth entered eternal rest at Maryview Medical Center on Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Born on October 19, 1940, in the Gilmerton section of Chesapeake, Virginia, Mrs. Riddick was the eldest daughter of the late Charlie and Erlene Gatling, and she was preceded in death by her youngest brother, Kenneth Gatling. For 58 years, she was united in holy matrimony to her childhood sweetheart, Harold Ernest Riddick, Sr. In addition to being a devoted and loving wife, she will be remembered as a dedicated mother to Harold Ernest Riddick, Jr. and Claude Elston Riddick, a cherished grandmother to Angel Dowden and Taneca Riddick, and a doting great-grandmother to Kori Riddick, Quincy Dowden, Jr. and Bliss Dowden. Claudia was a very stylish and vivacious person who loved life and people and had a fondness for small dogs. No one was a stranger to her-she befriended everyone she came in contact with. She was such a social butterfly who loved entertaining in her home and cooking for guests. Her specialties were fried fish and her collard greens. She enjoyed the quiet time of gardening but lived for highly energetic, competitive sports from Pee Wee football to Wimbledon. She is also survived by her five brothers, three sisters, a large extended family including in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of friends and neighbors. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31 at Metropolitan Funeral Service, 5605 Portsmouth Boulevard, Portsmouth. The internment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Boulevard, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30 at Metropolitan Funeral Service in Portsmouth.

Robbins, Alice H. - Chesapeake  
Alice H. Robbins Chesapeake - Alice Hedgepeth Robbins, 82, passed away peacefully in her home January 22, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Robbins, a native of Como, N.C., was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a security administrator after 25 years of service. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Portsmouth. Alice was a beloved mother and grandmother, always a beacon of unconditional love. Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis R. Carter, Katherine R. Golden and husband Tom, Jo Anne R. Johnson and husband Brian Lee; a daughter in law, Renee Robbins; eight grandchildren, Brandon Wise, Christopher Wise, Jordan Carter, Andrew Carter, Ryan Golden, Lillian Robbins, Dylan Johnson, Audrey Robbins; and a brother, Hurley G. Hedgepeth, Jr. She was predeceased by a daughter, Constance R. Wise; a son, Richie Robbins; and her husband, Phillip B. Robbins. A Requiem Eucharist will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2015 in St. John's Episcopal Church, 424 Washington St., Portsmouth, by Father J. Derek Harbin. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. Henry Rubin Virginia Beach - Henry Edward Rubin, 83, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2015 in Richmond, VA. He is survived by his wife Barbara G. Rubin, his son, Hilton Rubin and his wife, Suzanne; daughter, Michelle Rosenbaum and her husband, Evan; grandchildren, Darryn Rubin and Ronni Rosenbaum; and a loving extended family. Services will be held on Thursday, January 29 at 1:30 p.m. graveside at the Richmond Beth-El Cemetery at Forest Lawn. Shiva Minyan will be Thursday, January 29, Sunday, February 1, Monday, February 2 and Tuesday, February 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Barbara Rubin, 6806 Kirkwood Street, Henrico, VA 23228.
