Tankard, Baxley T. - Eastern Shore  
Mrs. Baxley T. Tankard Eastern Shore - Mrs. Elizabeth Moore Butzner Tankard, widow of Baxley Trower Tankard of Franktown, Virginia died Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge where she made her home in recent years. Mrs. Tankard, the daughter of the late William Walker Butzner and Anna Dunaway Butzner was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia June 9, 1923. She attended Longwood College. After college she worked in New York City, Cleveland, Ohio, and then Charlottesville where she became the second female stockbroker licensed in the state of Virginia employed in the firm of Wiley and Thornhill. During those years she was active in St. Paul's Memorial Church, the Farmington Country Club and the University League. In 1965 she married Baxley Tankard, a lawyer on the Eastern Shore whom she met through friends from Longwood. For the next forty-eight years she made her home at Pine Cove, Franktown, Virginia. There she was active in The Garden Club of the Eastern Shore opening their home for garden week several times. She was also active in Hungars Episcopal Church and was a champion golfer at the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club. In addition to enjoying the pleasures of boating and the shore, she and Baxley enjoyed extensive travels. During those years she maintained a second home in Charlottesville to visit family and friends. After his death in 2013 she moved to Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge on a permanent basis. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her brother, William Walker Butzner, Jr. (Catharine) of Fredericksburg and her sister Nancy Butzner Leavell (Byrd) of Charlottesville. She is survived by her four nieces and a nephew: Anna Moore Butzner of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Anne Leavell Reynolds (Herbert) of Hershey, Pennsylvania; and Betsy Butzner Greene (James), Byrd Stuart Leavell, Jr. (Mary) of Charlottesville, and Lucie Leavell Vogel, all of Charlottesville. Services will be at 3:00PM Saturday, June 25 at St. Paul's Memorial Church, 1700 University Ave., Charlottesville, Virginia with the family welcoming friends in the Parish Hall following. Burial will be at the Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery at 10:00AM Saturday morning in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Thomas, Anthony - Virginia Beach  
Anthony Thomas Virginia Beach - Anthony "Tony" Thomas, 93, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, Virginia and was the son of the late Peter and Jennie Romanus Thomas. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Adaline "Andy" Raphoon Thomas and his son, Peter A. Thomas and eleven siblings. Tony was the retired co-owner of John Brothers Plastering of Norfolk. He was a Roman Catholic and a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and a former member of Blessed Sacrament and also attended the Church of the Ascension. He served his country in the United States Navy as a Chief Gunners Mate during World War II. He was a former coach of the Kings Grant Vikings Football Team and a former President of the Lynnhaven Pony and Colt Baseball League. He was a charter member of Father Nicholas J. Habits Council # 3642, Knights of Columbus and was it's past Grand Knight and a past District Deputy. He was also a member and former president of the Sons and Daughters of Lebanon. He was also a member of the Padul Caravan #69,International Order of Alhambra. Survivors include his loving son, Martin A. Thomas, and his wife Mary Barbara of Virginia Beach and his brother, Leo Thomas of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Martin A. Thomas, Jr. (Maggie), Rebecca S. Zborowski (Eric), John Paul Thomas and Grace Ann Willenbrink and four great grandchildren. His family would like to thank the caring staffs of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Freda Gordon Hospice and Palliative Care of Tidewater for their loving care of Mr. Tony. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10:00 AM. The Reverend Father Mario Fulgenzi will officiate. A private family interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Laskin Road Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Friday, June 24, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Peggy J. Thomas Chesapeake - Peggy Jean Thomas, 86, of Chesapeake, passed away Monday, June 20, 2016. Born in Miami, FL, she was the daughter of the late Carl Hixson and Annie Fisher. She was also predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, William Charles Thomas; son, Claude M. Kinnard and two grandsons. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Elsie Mae Tiedeman Chesapeake - Elsie Mae Tiedeman, 83, of Chesapeake passed away peacefully Monday June 20, 2016. Mrs. Tiedeman was born in Norfolk County and was the daughter of the late William Emory and Lillian Virginia Upton Ewell. She was the widow of William Henry Tiedeman, Sr. and was predeceased by a son, William Henry Tiedeman, Jr.; siblings, William Ewell, Jr., Shirley Christensen and Betty Pangle. Mrs. Tiedeman was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for many years. Survivors include her children, David Tiedeman (Mary), Cynthia Meyers (Joseph) and Denise Tiedeman; grandchildren, William C. Tiedeman, Sr. (Adrian), Jennifer Lewis (Matt), Cheryl, Shane, Carlee and Carrie Meyers, John (Christine) and Robert Bottkol; great-grandchildren, Will, Makayla and Braelynn; siblings, Emory Ewell (Nancy), Audrey Spencer (Roger) and Joseph Ewell. Viola Tucker Portsmouth - Viola Whitehead Tucker was peacefully called home on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Viola was born on September 16, 1919 in the Swift Creek area of Nash County, NC. Tuttle, Diana Elaine - Chesapeake  
Diana Elaine Tuttle Chesapeake - Diana Elaine Tuttle, 36, of Chesapeake, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016. Raised in New Jersey, she was the daughter of Thomas and Deborah Roberts. Diana will be remembered as a loving wife and mother of three. A ray of sunshine, her kind, gentle and free spirit touched the lives of everyone she met. Including her parents, Diana is survived by her husband, Bob Tuttle; children, Gabriel, Ella and Zoey; a sister, Melissa Webb, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Tyrrell, Margaret - Norfolk  
Margaret B. Tyrrell (Peigi) Margaret Belle Tyrrell, 90, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016. She was born Margaret Belle Smith in Mount Forest, Ontario, Canada on August 24, 1925. Peigi Smith proudly served during WWII as a WREN in the Canadian Navy. She then completed her degree in Interior Design at the University of Manitoba and worked as a designer for Eaton's of Canada before marrying Joseph M. Tyrrell in 1955. In 1958, while living in Paris in order for Joe to complete research for his PhD in French Medieval History, their daughter, Anne was born. Shortly afterwards, they moved to the United States to live, first in Atlanta, Georgia and then in Charleston, South Carolina, before moving to Norfolk, Virginia, in 1961 where Professor Tyrrell taught European and Medieval History at Old Dominion University. In 1960, their son Joe was born and in 1965 Diana arrived. Peigi was the best mother anyone ever had. In addition, she enjoyed the many friends she made at Old Dominion University and served on the Faculty Wives Club. She was a loving and supportive wife who assisted with proofreading and typing some of her husband's articles and books and in later life, serving as caregiver for Joe, while working full time at Navy Functional Skills Program at the Norfolk Naval Base. Peigi and Joe were residents of West Ghent in Norfolk for 40 years before moving across town to Lakewood where Peigi enjoyed the friends she made in the neighborhood and as a member of the Lakewood Garden Club. Peigi was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Morten Tyrrell; her parents Edgar and Fairlene Smith and brother Douglas Smith, of Mount Forest, Ontario and sister Elizabeth Anne Inglis of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Peigi is survived by her daughter, Anne Katherine Jones and her husband, Trevor Howard Jones; son Joseph D. G. Tyrrell and his sons, David and Daniel; and daughter Diana Suchla, her husband Thomas Suchla, and their children, Michael and Madeleine. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 25, 2016 in the chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23517.
