Meares, Sotrea E. - Virginia Beach  
Sotrea E. Meares Virginia Beach - Sotrea E. Meares, 98, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015. She was born August 17, 1916 in Denver, CO to Stephen P. Economy and Julia Malliaris Economy and was preceded in death by her husband William A. Meares. While living in Albuquerque, New Mexico she was employed by the Albuquerque Public Schools as a library assistant. She was active in the Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron of Adah Chapter 5 in Albuquerque. In addition, she was active in the Daughters of Penelope and served as President of her Chapter and was a Past District Governor of District 17. Locally, she was a congregant of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, and a member of the Philoptochos Society and Hellenic Women's Club. She enjoyed participating in all aspects of community life, especially volunteering at the Greek Festival and Annunciation Youth Camp. She is survived by her daughter Chrisy Meares of Colorado Springs; her son Dr. James W. Meares and his wife Linda; her grandson Dr. Tony Meares and his wife Tracy, and two great grandchildren Evan and Gabriel; her grandson Andrew Meares and granddaughter Christina Meares. A Trisagion Service will be held at H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts. on Laskin Road on Monday March 2, 2015 at 6:30 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Annunciation Cathedral, Norfolk, VA by Rev. Fr. George Bessinas, and Rev. Fr. Constantine P. Rogakos, PH.D. Modlin, Rose Virginia - Norfolk  
Rose Virginia Modlin Norfolk - Rose Virginia Modlin, 91, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 after a brief illness. Born in Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude Carr. She was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. Virginius Earl Modlin and great- granddaughter, Ariana. She was a life-long member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and an avid gardner. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Thomas (Linda), Raymond (Susan), and James (Julie); grandchildren, Andrea Heroux (Scott), Laura Spires (Ivan), and Sam Modlin; great-grandchildren, Alexus and Rory Spires, and Holly and Jeffrey Wagner; and great-great-granddaughter, Ayden. The family will receive friends at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. The funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity. Montgomery, Patricia F. - 7. Pender  
Patricia F. Montgomery Suffolk - Patricia Fuller Montgomery was called home by God on February 24, 2015. The daughter of the late Juanita and Solon Fuller, Jr., Patricia graduated from C. F. Pope High School in Burgaw, NC in 1964. She received her B.S. degree in Sociology from Hampton Institute (now Hampton University), a Master of Arts degree in Education from Virginia Tech, and a Certificate in Advanced Study from Old Dominion University. An educator for over 35 years, she was the first principal to open two new elementary schools in back to back years, serving as principal at Mack Benn Elementary in 1998 and (the renovated) Booker T. Washington Elementary in 1999. Patricia shall always be remembered by her peers as a leader who demonstrated and demanded excellence in her teachers and compassion for her students. She was a member of the East End Baptist Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dennis, son Derek, daughter Meaghan, brother Solon Fuller III (Willie Ann) of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Dekari, Dasia, Danai, and Destiny;a beloved aunt Muriel Lovell, a beloved cousin, Donna West, in-laws, William and Alberta Montgomery (Chesapeake, VA), and a host of other treasured in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. The celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m., on Monday, March 2, 2015 at East End Baptist Church, Suffolk, VA. Interment will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at St. Mark Cemetery in Rocky Point, NC. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church.The family requests that donations be made in her name to the National Kidney Foundation ( www.kidney.org ). Final arrangements are handled by Harris Funeral Home (Suffolk, VA).

Moore, Carlos Lopez - Portsmouth  
Carlos Lopez Moore Portsmouth - Early Sunday morning February 21, 2015, God summoned our beloved husband; father, brother, nephew, friend, and co-worker into his eternal rest. Carlos Lopez Moore, 41, was born March 26, 1974 in Portsmouth, VA to Mr. James Jackson and the late Mrs. Patricia Moore Williams. He was educated in the Portsmouth Public Schools and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High in 1992. He loved football and was considered one of the best. However, he denied a lucrative college opportunity to remain home with his family. As we all know, Family was most important to him. He was employed with the City of Portsmouth and had been so for eight years. He met and fell in love with his beloved wife of 11 years and was soon going to celebrate 12 years of marital bliss. This union produced four loving children. He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in 2002. He joined and became a faithful member of the United Full Gospel Revival Center Church in Chesapeake, V A under the leadership of Apostle Olivia D. Sharp; Apostle Dallas S. Ellis, Sr., and Sr. Pastor Janet B. Ellis, his immediate Pastor. He leaves to cherish his memories and legacy his loving wife, Telaza Moore; his handsome sons, Jordan, Justus, and Jeremiah Moore; and his beautiful daughter Jewel Moore. He also leaves his brother, Travis Moore as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, friends, co-workers, and church family. A celebration of life will convene on Friday, Friday 27, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Full Gospel Revival Center located at 1225 Old Deep Creek Boulevard, in Chesapeake, VA. Burial is at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family has entrusted J. T. Fisher Funeral Services to handle the final care arrangements.

Morris, Craig E. - Virginia Beach  
Craig E. Morris Virginia Beach - Craig Morris died suddenly on February 22, 2015 after a brief illness. Craig was born on January 12, 1953 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Morris. Craig is survived by his mother, Marian Cross Morris; his daughter, Heather Johnson (Daniel) and two grandchildren, Peyton and Danny. Craig was an electrician by trade, but an avid billiard player and professional instructor for the love of the game. A memorial service will be held at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home at 301 N. Witchduck Rd., Virginia Beach at 2pm, Wednesday, March 4th. There will be a reception to follow after the memorial service in the reception room at the funeral home. Ernest L. Morris Portsmouth - (Shane) 68, passed away on Feb 19, 2015. He was born in Nasemond County to the late Herman and Edith Morris. He leaves to cherish his memories to his daughter- Pamela Robinson (Johnny), his sons- Linton and Cornelius Morris, his sister- Lillian Everette (Joe), his brothers- Horace and Linwood Morris, five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Murray, Frances Vourlas - Norfolk  
Frances Vourlas Murray Norfolk - Frances Vourlas Murray, 85, of Norfolk, died February 26, 2015. Mrs. Murray was born in Portsmouth, Virginia the daughter of the late Efstathios Vourlas and Drousilla Vourlas. Mrs. Murray was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Norfolk where she also worked for over thirty years. She was a member of the Hellenic Women's Club, the Daughters of Penelope and the Philoptocos Society. Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her husband John R. Murray, and a brother NickVourlas. She was a loving mother and grandmother to her daughter, Roxanne M. Hall and her husband Richard of Chesapeake, a son, John R. Murray and his wife Katherine of Norfolk, two sisters; Catherine Arakas of Ashville, NC., and Keeke Koutroulias of Greenville, SC. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Ryan Hall, Corey Hall, Brett Hall, David Murray, Michael Murray, Elizabeth Murray and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:00a.m. Monday March 2, 2015 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Norfolk by Reverend Father George Bessinas and Reverend Father Constantine Rogakos. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. There will be a Trisagion Service at the funeral home Sunday at 2:00p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Hellenic Women's Club Scholarship Fund. Neal, Jacqueline - Norfolk  
Jacqueline Neal Norfolk - Jacqueline Neal passed away on the morning of February 25, 2015 after an extended illness. Jackie was born on May 17, 1929 to the late Ray and Cleo Cope in Clifty, TN. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 57 years, Calvin E. Neal, Jr.; sister, Shirley Bruce and brother, Clyde Cope. Left to remember her are four sons and their wives, Michael (Carolyn), Bruce (Lynne), Ronald (Donna) and Jeffrey (Karen), all in the area; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, two sisters and a brother in Georgia, a sister in Florida, many nieces, nephews and numerous cherished friends. Mom was a loving and attentive wife and mother. Her love for her family was equaled only by her love of the Lord, and her extensive church family. To know Jackie was to love Jackie. The family will receive friends at Bayside Church of Christ, 5025 Shell Rd., Virginia Beach, VA on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Monday in the church sanctuary by Minister Mike Lucas. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. A reception will follow the interment at the Bayside Church of Christ. Arrangements are by Hollomon-Brown, Tidewater Drive Chapel.
