Adli A. Alliss
Norfolk - Adli A. Alliss, 85, of Williamsburg VA died April 23, 2013 surrounded by family. Mr. Alliss was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church. He earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Civil Engineering from N.C State University and was a member of Tau Beta Pi honorary engineering fraternity. He was employed by Tidewater Construction Corporation in 1954 and served for 35 years. Prior to his retirement in 1989, he was Vice President and Chief Engineer of Tidewater. He participated in the engineering for the construction of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and the second Hampton Roads Tunnel, several piers for local shipyards and the Navy, and many industrial plants locally and throughout the Southeast. Mr. Alliss was a member of the Engineers Club of Hampton Roads and served in many capacities on the Virginia Engineering and Technical Societies including as chairman. He was active in McKendree and St. John's United Methodist churches in Norfolk, serving in many leadership positions. Mr. Alliss was active in civic affairs. He was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club of Norfolk and his community's civic league association and served in several capacities including president. He worked for many years with Mobile Meals of Norfolk.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Carolyn; and his five children: Dora Kay Dalmas (David), David (Deborah), Nancy Jones, Julia Lawrence, and Randall (Rebecca); seven grandchildren and brothers, Yaser and Ali Alliss.
A funeral service will be held at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185 on April 26 at 11 a.m. officiated by the Dr. Richard Soulen. A viewing will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg on April 25 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. A reception will be held at WindsorMeade of Williamsburg following the service for friends and relatives. Interment will be in Norfolk at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk on April 27 at 11 a.m. officiated by Rev. Dr. Bill Jones.
