Allen Creekmur
Chesapeake - Allen Alexander Creekmur entered into eternal rest peacefully Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Bon Secour Maryview Nursing Center, Suffolk, Virginia. Mr. Creekmur was the son of the late Winfield and Ethel Watts Creekmur. He was a guidance counselor at the former Crestwood High School and retired as Director of Student Support Services, Norfolk State University. Mr. Creekmur a product of Portsmouth Public Schools and a graduate of I.C. Norcom High School. He received the Bachelor of Arts from Virginia Union University and the Master of Arts from Virginia State University. Allen also served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Creekmur was a lifelong member of Emanuel A.M.E. Church, Portsmouth. He was a member of the Zeta Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Many persons will fondly remember him for his love of both encouraging students to pursue higher education and raising and selling produce during the summer months. He is predeceased by a brother Windell Creekmur. He is survived by his faithful and loving wife, Mildred Palmer Creekmur; a sister, Olivia C. Joyner N.J; a brother, Winfield O. Creekmur, Portsmouth; an aunt Dulcie Watts, Portsmouth; a special cousin (who was more of a brother), Henry Southall, Chesapeake; a devoted Goddaughter, Pamela Southall, Chesapeake; three devoted nieces, Angela Daniels, Portsmouth, Patricia Southall Smith, Dallas, TX. and Denise West, N.J.; two devoted nephews Wendell Joyner, N.J. and Ray Daniels, Jr., TN; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Hayes, Petersburg and Margaret Locust, Portsmouth; one brother-in-law Burnie Legette, CO; a host of other nieces nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held, 12 noon, Saturday, May 18, at Emanuel A.M. E. Church, Portsmouth with Rev. Granger Flythe officiating. A wake service will be held, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Metropolitan Funeral Service, 5605 Portsmouth Blvd. The family will receive friends and assemble at 4009 Lisas Cove Way, Chesapeake.
