Ann Courtney Perkins Privett

Salvo - Ann Courtney Perkins Privett, 68, of Salvo, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 20, 2014 in Hickory, NC. Born in Portsmouth, VA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Bertram and Evelyn Shackleford Perkins and was the widow of Russell Lee Privett, Sr. She was a former owner/operator of The Fishin' Hole, a former public school teacher in Virginia, a graduate of East Carolina University, and a member of Clarks Bethel United Methodist Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was also an active member of The Rebekahs, United Methodist Women's organization, SALT of Bethlehem Baptist Church and over the years various other community and charity organizations.

Mrs. Privett is survived by a daughter, LeeAnn Privett and significant other Gary Coonse of Taylorsville, NC; a son, Russell Privett, Jr. and fiance', Anne Sutton of Durham, NC; and two brothers, Robert Perkins and wife Nancy of Portsmouth, VA and Glenn Perkins and wife Judy of The Villages, FL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, and other family whom she loved dearly, as well as her dog Kandy and many granddogs. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Perkins.

Mrs. Privett loved the beach, working in the Fishin' Hole, teaching individuals how to fish and playing the piano. Her hobbies included repairing reels, wrapping rods, gardening and canning. She loved oysters (especially when someone else shucked them!), and eating at Top Dog and Nino's Pizza.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at Clarks Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jim Bliss. Burial will be at 4:00 PM at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, VA. The family will receive friends and relatives at the church on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
