Daniel G. Gillen

Daniel Gordon Gillen
Virginia Beach - Daniel G. Gillen, 73, passed away peacefully on March 23rd, with his loving family at his side after losing his battle with Cardiac Amyloidisis. He was the deeply loving husband of 50 years to Nadine (Dee) Gillen and inspiring father to Joseph (Sandra), Timothy, Colleen (Greg) and Nathan (Torie).
After working for 27 years at the VA Hampton Hospital and 30 years at Scope and Chrysler Hall he retired to Vero Beach, Fla. where he was able to indulge in his love of a laid back beach lifestyle. When he wasn't working on his beautiful yard, watching sports or playing golf he would donate his time and energy to charity work. Before retirement he also served his country, first in the U.S. Navy, having served in the Bay of Pigs and then as a recruiter in the Coast Guard for 30 years also serving in Desert Storm. Throughout his life Dan walked in faith and love with Christ as a devout Catholic. His charities work is too lengthy to list and the lives he touched too many to count. He was a wonderful and active grandfather to Justin, Alexis, Skylher, Jessica, Maranda, Zachary, Zachary, Cody, Dakota, Joey, Joshua, Ilyania, Mackenzie, and Hailey. Our father made love the center of his life and is now happily in the welcoming arms of God.
Services will be held April 6, at 11 a.m. at Church of the Ascension. Arrangements are being handled by Altmeyer Funeral Home. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.altmeyer.com.
