Chesapeake - Gloria Jean Cox Johnson, peacefully passed away on July 16, 2013 in Chesapeake, Virginia. Born on March 10, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Olivia Day Cox. She worked for fifteen years in the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority as a housing counselor. Later, she worked with the Percy Johnson Tax Service as a tax preparer.

She was a product of the Norfolk Public School System, and later matriculated to Norfolk State University, where she earned a B.S. Degree in Biology. After graduation she joined Sigma Gamma Rho Norfolk Alumni chapter, Arabia Court 23 Daughters of Isis, and the Eastern Star. In addition, she was a member of Norfolk State Alumni, Bachelor Benedict Wives, and Booker T. Washington Scholarship foundation.

She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Percy; sons Thadeus Sr., Percy Jr., and Jeffrey of Chesapeake, Virginia. Gloria leaves behind six brothers and three sisters. Dennis N. Cox (Terri[D]), Sylvester Cox (Gloria[D]), David Cox (Rowena), Terry Cox (Criscilla), Gerald Cox (Vanessa), Alvin Cox (Trina), Bishop Rosetta Cox, Patricia Yarboro, and Shirley Cox. Gloria has four deceased[D] siblings, Eugene (Barbara), Michael, Ronald Cox, and Anita Cox. She has to cherish her memories her grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19, at Hale Funeral Home. The wake will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday July 20, 2013 at 11 am at St. John's African Methodist Episcopal Church, 545 East Bute Street, Norfolk, Virginia. www.halefuneralhome.com
