James L. Cooper
Virginia Beach - NCC (SW) James L. Cooper (Coop), 68, of Virginia Beach passed away on January 4, 2014.
James was born May 25, 1945 in Lexington, NC, the son of the late Charlie and Hazel Cooper, James is also preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Cooper and Harvey Ronald Cooper.
Left to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 35 years, Jeanette Cooper; his No.1 son, Robert Hill (Susan) of Garner, NC, Roy Hill of Smith Mountain Lake , VA, Ronald Hill (Saula) of San Diego, CA; his No.1 adopted son, William Farynaz (Katie) of Parker, CO; grandchildren, Yvonne Redifer of Virginia Beach and Heather Slaughter of Roxboro, NC; 5 great-grandchildren, his sisters, Linda and Brenda Cooper of Lexington, NC, sisters-in-law, Rita Cooper of Ashville, NC and Marie Rondeau (Barry) of Myrtle Beach, SC.
Coop was a master mason with Norview Lodge # 113 in Norfolk, a lifetime member of the VFW
Ocean View Post 3160, a lifetime member of UDT-Seal Association INC, as well as the Fraternal Order of the Old Bastards. James also retired in August of 1992 after 20 years of service to his country in the US Navy. His naval career is as follows: Recruit Training Center Great Lakes Il., USS Proteus (AS-19), NTC SSC Great lakes Il, UDT R1, Little Creek, VA, USS Hermitage (LSD-34), USS Fulton AS-11, Naval Support Pacific NHA-BE Vietnam, USS Implicit (MCO 455), Naval Communication Station Naples Italy, USS Trenton LPD 14, Fleet Training center Norfolk VA, 1982-1983, Fighter Squadron 31 Oceana VA, Fleet Training Center Norfolk VA, 1985-1989, Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia, USS Preble (DDG-46) and SIMA Little Creek.
