Jessie Mae Rush

Chesapeake - Jessie Mae Rush, 84, passed away July 4, 2014. She was born on December 26, 1930 in Lane, South Carolina. Jessie was educated in Williamsburg County Public Schools in Lane, SC. She retired after 25 years as a Tool and Parts Attendant at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Jessie was a member of New St. Thomas Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and in the Choir. She was also an Eastern Star. Jessie was the first female Rigger in NNSY and the first black Cab Driver in Charleston, SC. She was predeceased by her parents, Daisy and Garfield Green; two husbands, Lawrence Litton and Charles Rush; four sisters; three brothers and grandson, Charles Rush. Jessie leaves to cherish her memories; four daughters, Carolyn Knight, Charlesann Jones (Samuel), Meta Brown (Kenneth) and Sharon Litton; two sons, Dennis Rush and Jobe Rush; nine grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of life will be held, 11am, Saturday July 12, 2014 at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Portsmouth Chapel. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery.
