John B. Facenda
Portsmouth - John Bart Facenda, 66, died April 9, 2013 in his home surrounded by those he loved and who loved him. He had fought a courageous battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis for many months.
Mr. Facenda was born in Portsmouth, the son of the late Joseph A. Facenda, Sr. and Aloysia "Sissie" Nee Facenda. He was retired from the Purchasing Department of the City of Norfolk after 27 years of service. He volunteered at Nauticus and the Mariner's Museum as a docent for the RMS Titanic exhibits. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Shirley Brett Facenda; three daughters, Bridget Facenda Waddell and husband Earl of Charlotte, N.C., Vanessa Facenda Graves and husband Steve of Portsmouth, Shelby Lynn Facenda of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Alayna, Ryan, Thomas, Maggie, and Reed; four brothers, Joseph A. Facenda, Jr. (Love) of Portsmouth, James F. Facenda (Janet) of Portsmouth, Jerald P. Facenda (Michael) of Atlanta, Ga., and Julian F. Facenda (Darrell) of Norfolk; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 12 at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13 in St. Paul's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Portsmouth Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Restoration Fund of St. Paul's Catholic Church, 518 High St., Portsmouth, Va. 23704.
