VIRGINIA BEACH - Joseph Peter Zaluski, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2013. He taught math in the public school system for many years. He spent over 20 years in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of WWII attaining the rank of Commander in the Naval Reserves. Born in Hamtramck, Mich., he was the son of the late Frances Zakzrewska Zaluski and William S. Zaluski.
Mr. Zaluski was a 1956 graduate of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, a member of Toastmasters where he received their highest honors, a Naval Air Reserve Training Unit member, VFW member, and supporter of the Lion's Club.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 59 years, Thelma Elliott Zaluski; Nephew Dennis Zaluski Sr. and wife Shirley, and their son Dennis Anthony and daughters Shirley and Seruga; Niece Beverly Jenceleski and husband Robert; daughter-in-law Alyce Heidt; son-in-law Edward "Buzz" Heidt Jr.; grandchildren Chris Heidt, Tim and Stacy Heidt, Paris and Kevin Laliberte, and great-grandchildren Archer Heidt and Luke, Joseph, and Zamiyah Laliberte.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 in the Norfolk Chapel of H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Ave. Burial will follow with military honors in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to your local Lion's Club.
