Margaret E. Powers
Norfolk - Margaret E. Powers passed away July 12, 2013, while visiting her sister in Newport News. She was born June 28, 1931, in Norfolk, the first child of Alton B. and Elizabeth W. Powell. After graduating from Maury High School in 1949, Margaret worked for the Southern Bank of Norfolk and eventually retired from First Virginia Bank as a vice-president after a successful career of 43 years. She was the widow of Robert E. Powers, with whom she celebrated 58 years of marriage. As she was known to her closest family, "Pidge" is survived by her devoted Himalayan cat Ashley, her sister Mary P. Doxey of Newport News, five nieces, six great-nephews, one great-niece, and many, many cousins across the country. To all the family and friends of Margaret and Bob Powers, whenever you cross the Chesapeake Bay, Lynnhaven Inlet, or Little Creek, think of them and the wonderful years they spent cruising on the Rainmaker.
