Virginia Beach - Martha Ernestine Huff Corley passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013.
Born in Athens, Georgia, May 8, 1922 Ernestine was a lifelong Methodist and was currently a member of Chester United Methodist Church, Chester, Virginia. She was a devoted wife to Lt. Col. Ruel H. Corley, Jr., USMC (Ret.) (deceased) and a loving mother to her two children, a son, Retired US Army Lt. Col. James H. Corley and a daughter, the Rev. Cynthia A. Corley, retired United Methodist pastor. Ernestine was a military wife who kept a loving home in the face of war and separation. One of the "greatest generation", she was the foundation of the family, who had a gift for keeping things together.
Surviving a sickly childhood, Ernestine was valedictorian of her class at Winterville High School, a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Education, and a tireless worker in the churches where she was a member. Besides her two children, she is survived by a brother, Richard Huff, his wife, Nancy Huff, and nephew, Brian Huff, all of Atlanta, Georgia, Jayne Corley, wife of son James Corley, and two granddaughters, Jessica Corley and Jennie Corley Cowart and her husband, Adam, all of Augusta, Georgia.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, on Friday, Feb. 7, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with The Rev. Dr. Margaret T. Kutz and The Rev. Dr. Eugene R. Woodridge officiating. Interment will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Assocication or to Chester United Methodist Church, Chester, VA.
