Patricia Twohy Rector
Virginia Beach - Patricia Twohy Rector, resident of Atlantic Shores, was born March 18, 1930 and died peacefully at home on January 15, 2014. She was the daughter of John Twohy II and Grace Merrick Twohy. She was predeceased by her brother John Twohy IV. She is survived by her brother Edward M. Twohy of Richmond.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years; Dr. George H. M. Rector and her seven children: Cynthia R. Jones (Kelly Chapman.), Katherine R. Mclean (Ron), George Rector, Jr., MD (Elaine), David M. Rector (Kim), John T. Rector (Wanda), Frederick B. Rector (Grace), Patricia R. Preti (Todd) and 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Patricia attended Garrison Williams School and graduated from the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA and Finch College in New York. She was a counselor at a camp for displaced children in World War II
. While a member of the Junior League in Norfolk she helped established the Volunteer Service Bureau. She was secretary of the First Young Republican Club of Norfolk. Patricia was on the Auxiliary Board serving as Secretary for St. Mary's Infant Home, now St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children. While in Charlottesville, she was a volunteer for the Recording for the Blind.
Patricia was always involved in her church, serving on the Parish Council of Sacred Heart and later a founding member of St. John the Apostle Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister.
She was a founding member and first President of the Junior Garden Club of Norfolk and later a member of the Garden Club of Norfolk.
Pat always enjoyed her friends and their many Bridge Games, Spite and Malice games, and Golf. Most of all she took great pride in beating her Grandchildren in Yahtzee.
Pat loved their many golf trips with their close friends and also as members of the Southern Seniors Golf Association.
The family would like to thank her faithful and kind caregivers for the past years - Cora Granby Parker, Dora Granby Dywanna Smith, and Ada Ferebee. Their constant care made her later years productive and enjoyable.
The family will receive friends on Friday January 17, 2014. from 6-8 PM in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Rd Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday January 18, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 1968 Sandbridge Road, VA Beach.
