Robert J. Farris

Norfolk - Sgt. Maj. Robert J. Farris, 90, passed away peacefully at home on November 25th, 2013. He was born March 4, 1923 to the late Domineck D. and Anna Farris. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in December 1941. He served in Guadalcanal and New Zealand during WWII. He served in Korea from February 1952 to March 1953 and Vietnam from June 1966 to July 1967. He retired from the U.S. Marines Corps in July 1969. He was predeceased by his wife, Billie Farris, his brother Ott C. Farris, Sr., and his nephew, Ott C. Farris, Jr.

He is survived by his daughter, Rachel J. Rock, and son-in-law, Jim Rock; two sisters, Madeline Staggers and Yvonne Burgess (Hammer); nephew/stepson, Bill Farris (Nancy); grandchildren, Jamie E. Richardson (Matt), Robert J. Rock (Katy), Clay Farris (Stacy), David Farris (Brittany) and Cecilia Shuttlesworth (Nathan); great grandchildren, Camden, Bailey and Virginia Richardson, Nora, Caleb and Mark Farris, and Emma Shuttlesworth.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday December 7 at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby Street Chapel; Bill Farris officiating. A burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
