Willard "Bill" Wasson(1923 - 2013)

Willard Wasson
Norfolk - Willard "Bill" Wasson passed away March 14, 2013 in Arlington, TX. He was born at home on May 16, 1923, to Clydia (McDonough) and Ernest Wasson, in Wasson, IL. Bill joined the U.S. Navy in 1941, and served thirty years, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer in 1971. He married IV "Tilley" Wasson in 1949. He was stationed in various places in the U.S. and Europe during his career. He and Tilley settled in Norfolk, VA after his retirement where they lived until moving to TX to be near family in 2010. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, his parents, brother George and sister Eloise Flanigan. He is survived by his son Dale and daughter-in-law Kimberly van Noort of Arlington, TX; son Dean and daughter-in-law Vivian of Springfield, MO; grandchildren Judith Oglesby and husband James of Statesboro, GA, Matthew Wasson of Savannah, Jacob Wasson of Bloomington, Il and Michael Wasson of Statesboro; step-grandchildren Hilary and Nathan van Noort of Arlington; great-grandson Grayson Oglesby; brothers Lyndell and Bob, and sisters Joanne Fritts and Janice Wasson. Cremation and private services will be arranged by Moore Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Bill and Tilley Wasson Study Abroad Scholarship at the University of Texas at Arlington, established to share Bill and Tilley's passion for international travel.
