Chester Kowalewski

Chester Kowalewski CHESAPEAKE - Chester Edmond Kowalewski, 91, of Lisbon Road, died July 10, 2010 in his home. He went to be with the Lord peacefully, the same way he lived life. Born in Jamaica, N.Y., and raised in Bowers Hill, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna C. Kowalewski and a sister, Lottie Jaskoviak. Chester was a retired comptroller with Norfolk Naval Shipyard, attended Green Lakes Baptist Church, and was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Bradford. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and feeding the birds. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Mitchell and husband Monty of Chesapeake, Lisa K. Carroll and husband Steve of Portsmouth; one sister, Jennie Cichorz; four grandchildren, Jeremy Mitchell, Monica Mitchell, Wesley Carroll and Jessie Carroll; and one great-grandchild, Adie Hayes. He dearly loved his family. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by Dr. Dwight Buchholz and the Rev. Gregory Kitts. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
