Evelyn A. Schikevitz DANIA BEACH, Fla. - Evelyn Avner Schikevitz, 87, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 in Hollywood, Fla. Born Aug. 31, 1923 in Cleveland, Evelyn spent the majority of her life in Portsmouth. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, David Schikevitz. Evelyn is survived by her two children, Mindy Runge and husband Richard Goldenberg of Hollywood, Fla.; and Ron Schikevitz and wife Kathy of Overland Park, Kan.; five grandchildren, Chris, Brian, Tabitha, Abby and Mollie; and four great-grandchildren, Emma, Aiden, Samara and Reese. She was a kind and generous woman who devoted herself to her family and her Jewish community. For more than 15 years, she worked side-by-side with her husband, David in the family business, David's Seaman and Marine Store at Pinner's Point in Portsmouth. She served for 13 years as the executive secretary at Gomley Chesed Synagogue Congregation. Evelyn enjoyed traveling throughout the world with David and friends and was an avid baseball fan cheering on her beloved Atlanta Braves each season. A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Gomley Chesed cemetery, 3603 George Washington Hwy., Portsmouth. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling arrangements. Dear Mindy & Ron; Sorry to see of Evelyn's passing. Both your parents were wonderful people. I enjoyed being with your father at the store and your mother at Gomley Chesed. I did not know that she was in Florida also. I would have enjoyed seeing her.Herb Levin(Boca Raton)

Mindy, Ron;

I will miss my Aunt Evelyn ever so much. My memories of her go back to Ironton, Ohio around 1952. I also treasure my visits to her home here when I would stop by after visting my client in Portsmouth.

I am fortunate that I could talk to her regulary at her home in Florida. We would always end by expressing our love and promise to call again.
