James Francis Jordan

Virginia Beach - James Francis Jordan, Captain USN, Retired, passed away on May 2, 2014. He served in the U.S. Navy for 34 years from 1957 until 1991. After receiving a Fleet Appointment to the United States Naval Academy he graduated with the Class of '62. His service included command of three ships: the USS White River (LSMR-536), USS Newman K. Perry (DD-883), and USS Sumter (LST-1181), as well as two shore duty commands. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for ServiceMaster for 10 years as Director of Buildings and Grounds at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan, and Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia. In his spare time he became an accomplished Bowl Turner.

James was born in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, on August 21, 1939. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy L. Jordan, his children Laurie Adams (Edward), Kellie Jordan, James F. Jordan Jr., five grandchildren, Edward, Samuel, John Henry, Abigail, and James III. He is also survived by four sisters, Judy Gaydos, Mary Noble, Nancy Snyder, Patty Slemok, and a brother Joseph Jordan Jr. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association (www.apdaparkinson.org) in James' name.

There will be a Funeral Mass at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Saturday, May 10th, 2014 at 10 a.m., followed by inurnment in the church columbarium. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel is handling arrangements and online condolences may be made at hdoliver.com.
