Deborah Sykes Obituary

Deborah Trader Sykes
Chesapeake - Deborah Trader Sykes, 63, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in a Norfolk hospital. Born in Portsmouth, Va., she was the daughter of the late John B. "J.B." Trader and Elizabeth Leah Muenster Trader. Debbie was also the step-daughter of Dorothy E. Trader. Most of her career she spent working in the banking industry, having worked as a note teller, teller trainer, and branch manager at various banks in South Hampton Roads. She was retired from Bank of America.
Debbie was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church. One of her great loves was to shop, especially in Nordstrom's and she trained Leah and Mary to be loyal Nordstrom customers. Debbie had a pure heart and a gentle nature that immediately put others at ease. Once you met her she touched your life forever and she dedicated her life to her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband and best friend, Paul A. C. Sykes; two daughters, Leah Marie Sykes-Hodgson and her husband, Chris of Las Vegas, NV, and Mary Frances Sykes of Fairfax, VA; three sisters, Kitty T. Parker of Gulfport, MS, Valarie T. Vohland and her husband Jim of Metamora, IN, and Cindie N. Credle and her husband Wayne of Chesapeake, VA; three brothers, John Michael Trader of Newport News, VA and his wife Pat, Mark D. Nichols and his wife Cindy of Chesapeake, VA, and Timothy O. Trader and his wife Linda of Katy, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. She also had two very close "GIRLFRIENDS", Linda M. Browning and Logene B. Drexler.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Chesapeake, with The Rev. Fletcher M. Wells officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Thomas's Episcopal Church Organ Fund, 233 Mann Dr., Chesapeake, VA 23322 or deposited in a collection basket at the church on the day of the service. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Chesapeake Chapel is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be offered to the family through www.hdoliver.com
