Isaac Danker Obituary
Norfolk - Cantor Isaac Danker, 85, of the 900 block of West 21st Street, passed away January 4, 2012.
A native of Jerusalem, Israel he was born May 19, 1926. He was the son of the late Meir and Zipporah Danker. He served as the Cantor Emeritus of Temple Israel in Norfolk, beginning his service there in 1975. Prior to that post he officiated as Cantor of Rodef Sholom Temple in Hampton for five years.
Cantor Danker spent much of his time in his beloved homeland of Israel. He served in various government positions including the Health Ministry, and the "Histadrut", the Israeli Labor Association.
Cantor Danker is survived by his wife of 64 years Rebecca Rubin Danker; his children, sons Eli Danker and wife Michal, Yoram Danker and wife Dawn, Udi Danker and wife Yaffa; and his foster daughter Stephanie Safron and husband Joe. He is also survived by his siblings Nechamah, Jacob, Yehoshua; Ita, Peninah, Ruth, and Ora; and his grandchildren Daniel, Ran, Stav, Yarden, Noa, Royi, Nevo, Yuval and Jordan as well numerous extended family members in the US and Israel. He was predeceased by his brother Sholom.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Temple Israel in Norfolk with Rabbi Michael Panitz officiating. Burial will take place in Israel at a later date. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Norfolk Chapel is handling arrangements.

I want to offer my deepest condolences to the Danker family. I'm so incredibly sad to hear of Cantor Danker's passing. I have such fond memories of him and I will never forget spending time with him preparing for my Bat Mitzvah. He will truly be missed! The entire Danker family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

So sad to hear of the passing of Isaac, our beloved Cantor Danker. We have so many wonderful memories of him from his days at Rodef Sholom. Roberta, Lorri, Shelley and Lisa join me in sending our deepest condolences and love to you. We shall always remember our dear friend, of blessed memory.

cantor danker was the man that made me stay interested in synagogue as a child. we spent many hours together when i was preparing for my bar mitzvah. i will always remember him with admiration. rest in peace cantor danker.

I literally grew up w/ Cantor Danker and he taught me to sing, and sing well! For that I'll remember him; and for changing hats on Purim! May he rest more peacefully now in Yisrael.
